Bravo at the end of the school show....

Last week I went to my dds school show.
At the very end the whole audience stood up in their seats and clapped and cheered
I was in the middle of my mum (76) and my husband (disabled) both who have difficulty getting up so I remained sitting, we were in the front row.
Obviously I was clapping hard at the end because it was an excellent performance, however I did feel a bit uncomfortable being sat down when most of the other parents were standing.
Was this a faux pas should I have stood even when my immediate family to the left and right of me were seated,
If I had been by myself I would have stood, would you think any less of someone who didn't stand.

Erm. I really wouldn't worry about something like this.

No one will have even noticed.

I'm a Wheelchair user so I appreciate if everyone is standing that the person with me stays sitting. We can both clap just as loud sitting down! otherwise I'm just the odd one out, and I know I can't stand but it still feels just as "oops" if everyone else is. I'm sure no one else thought anything - you were clapping, different if you weren't

Try not to worry - when you're the only one(s) who didn't do something it can make you feel a bit exposed but I highly doubt anyone noticed. And even if they did, it really doesn't matter.

It really doesn't matter what everyone else thinks, your decision was based on respect to your DH & DM rather than disrespect to the performance. Both are equally valid, if you had stood up that wouldn't have been "rude" to your DH or DM either. Just go with what feels right on balance for you at the time.

I think much worse of the parent who stands up and screams when their child does their bow and doesn't bother clapping for anyone else's.

In fact I would assume that you had difficulty standing, particularly if you were in the middle of the front row.
The exception would be if I knew you to be a constant complainer.
But if you're worrying about that, then I doubt you are.

(That was badly written, sorry - I meant that both standing up and staying sat down are equally valid in those circumstances).

I wouldn't worry, there were probably a few others who didn't stand either that you just couldn't see.

I never stand and cheer at these things. it just feels so awkward and sometimes it's just a competition as to which parent can whoop and clap the loudest.
