What everyday noise drives you to distraction?

I am sitting in my favourite coffee shop and one of the members of staff needed to move a chair away from a table to place it in front of a high cupboard so she could stand on it to reach it. She dragged the chair several yards and the scraping noise made me feel like screaming. She then proceeded to do this several more times by which time I felt like my ears were bleeding. Nobody else seemed remotely bothered. My DD gets the rage from the clinking noise made when people stirring their tea/coffee for an excessive amount of time. What common place noises drive YOU mad?

Pretty much all non-one-off noises made by other people! And the pooch having a grumble at absolutely nothing outside - she goes on and on sometimes. If I'm doing something that I need to concentrate for then I need silence. I'm not good with noise unless I'm making it myself. Whereas this morning I was outside playing with the jetwasher with my ipod on full blast in my ears - loads of noise but it was under my control and so just fine :)

The beeping noise on the washing machine when it's done and it seems to go on for ages. Yes we get it, you're done!!

The scraping of cutlery on plates

Anyone who is not a toddler using a whiny voice.

The recorded voice in our work lift.

The TV being a tad too loud...I just can't think straight.

KnowOneNose · 15/12/2016 20:25

Eating. I really can't stand it. Especially strawberries. 😖🍓🍓🍓🍓

Little kids shreaky voices. Awful, so piercing and so loud.

Parents who talk to little kids in a LOUD voice especially when the kid is right next to them. It drives me nuts. Seriously stfu

Yapping dogs if it's prolonged

Late night music from parties etc. ok until, say, 11 or 12 but then silence please.

Xmas music in shops. Why? Why does anyone think it's a good idea. It's awful and even worse than awful if it's playing in November.

Any loud music in shops or restaurants. It's irritating. Please stop.

KnowOneNose · 15/12/2016 20:26

Shriek not shreak

Grilledaubergines · 15/12/2016 20:27

Being in pizza express/zizzi/Nero/costa and listening to the sound of Crockery being seemingly thrown from a great height into a sink/dishwasher. It's deafening.

Atticmatic · 15/12/2016 20:30

Windchimes.

Fucking bastard windchimes.

I cannot tune them out. They are not soothing. They bug the hell out of me and it's ALL I CAN HEAR!!! Aaaarrrgghhhhh

pinkieandperkie · 15/12/2016 20:30

Knife sharpening.

Coffeerun · 15/12/2016 20:31

Snoring
When people sneeze in an over exaggerated way
Noisy cars and motorbikes
My toddler screaming
My ndn slamming their front door

wherethefuckisthefuckingtuna · 15/12/2016 20:31

People scratching their skin. I can't abide the sound of long fingernails dragging repeatedly across somebody's skin.

It makes me want to smash something. And then vomit.

Sleeperandthespindle · 15/12/2016 20:33

Pretty much everything these days.

chocolateworshipper · 15/12/2016 20:35

Teeth on cutlery. I mean WHY?????

ImTakingTheEssence · 15/12/2016 20:35

When a fork or knife scrapes the plate when eating.
Scrunching paper napkins
Heavy breathing
Chewing/lip smacking
Chalk on a blackboard/felt tip pen noise
Chewing gum
Picking nails
That noise you hear before people spit in the street
People sniffing or talking with a gruff voice like they need to cough

I don't know how I get through my day Confused

uncoolnn · 15/12/2016 20:36

People eating anything, especially people crunching on hard boiled sweets Angry
Heavy breathing
The sound the Facebook app makes when you refresh the news feed on an iPhone Envy

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 15/12/2016 20:36

high pitched tuneless whistling gives me the stabby rage....

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 15/12/2016 20:37

The DC bickering
DH snoring
The cat chewing her claws
The slurpy wet sound the cat makes when she's cleaning her arse (sat on the sofa right behind my head Xmas Hmm )
The metallic clang of cutlery on teeth when eating
The cat (again!) coughing up a furball (usually when I've just gone to bed, so I just have to lie there listening to it as it'll be too late by the time I get downstairs to issue her outside/onto a tiled floor)

And lastly the police helicopter flying round and round for an hour at a time nearly every night for the past two weeks because I live in a lovely area full of joyriders who clearly don't have to get up early in the morning!

Jeez I needed that! Thanks Janey50 Xmas Grin

PoptartPoptart · 15/12/2016 20:38

Next doors dogs barking constantly. Gives me the fucking rage.

havalina1 · 15/12/2016 20:40

People eating crisps.

I was in hospital with my baby and behind the screen another parent was eating crisps. That hard dulled crunching. Ugh

In written form, the words Nom Nom on FB etc give me the rage.

lilapril · 15/12/2016 20:47

In written form, the words Nom Nom on FB etc give me the rage

haha! Oh yes me too... Omnomnom is even worse 😂

olivesnutsandcheese · 15/12/2016 20:56

My DS (12) constantly tapping on things.

Mouse510 · 15/12/2016 21:06

The clatter that my husband manages to make with all the dishes when he empties the dishwasher.
Loud sneezing.
Sniffing (I've been known to offer strangers on the train a tissue due to their incessant sniffing!)
Slurping of hot drinks
Noisy eaters (my boss is dreadful for this, drives my colleague and I both mental!)

SpookyPotato · 15/12/2016 21:12

I live opposite a mechanics and so many people beep their horn as they drive past, I don't get it! But yeah the constant beeping is annoying, it's so demanding Angry

thecolonelbumminganugget · 15/12/2016 21:13

This is quite niche. I prefer classical music but the sound of woodwind performers drawing breath on a recording goes right though me as does the tapping sounds as the valves close on said wind instruments.

chocolateworshipper · 15/12/2016 21:24

I'm actually really happy to discover that this is a condition with a cool name and I'm not just "weird" Grin
