Who remembers the Garbage Pail Kids?

Does anyone remember these sticker cards from the 80's?

I've been reminded of them today and I can remember a weird smell associated with them, I must have been 3 when my siblings were collecting them. Did they come with some bubble gum? But which one?

I've been looking at the cards online all day and keep having flashbacks to childhood! Those pictures were strangely mesmerising to a 3/4 year old!

Agree with wookie, the earlier series are being sold for a nice price on eBay!

I collected the cards... used to love them. As a pp said, the gum tasted of the smell of germoline cream!

Charley50 · 14/12/2016 22:05

I've still got mine. I'll dig em out tomorrow..
And do you remember wanted stickers?!

ISpeakJive · 14/12/2016 22:11

I was a huge fan!!!!! Collected 100's of the cards. Still remember the smell of the bubblegum.
Shucks guys, the nostalgia has hit me full force now Grin

WillWorkForShoes · 14/12/2016 22:25

Yes. There was one that shared a name with my auntie Valerie. The garbage pail kid was valerie vomit. Oh how we skitted her Grin

ShotsFired · 15/12/2016 08:07

Wookiecookies Shots... check, some of them are worth serious 💰💰💰

Really? oooh, well I do have nice long Christmas break coming up to resume the hunt! Grin

I loved them!. I had loads of the cards. The favourites being those with the same name as my parents e.g. "Drunk Ken". They were hilarious and naughty to my eight year old self! My Grandma hated them and binned them. I was gutted. Fond memories of a different era.

DaftMarenghi · 15/12/2016 16:11

Ah memories! I loved those things. Wasn't the gum a tutti frutti flavour?

eternalopt · 15/12/2016 22:39

Loved them!! Endless hours of flicking through huge piles with friends in the playground murmuring "got, got, got, got, oooo - swap?"

Lionking1981 · 15/12/2016 23:40

Oh my god, my brother and i were obsessed with these. The gum was disgusting. Doughey Chloe anyone?

NormHonal · 15/12/2016 23:49

Yes! I've got a book full of them floating around somewhere. [old gimmer]

HateSummer · 16/12/2016 09:29

I've been looking at the cards online for a few days now and keep smelling the gum! It's amazing how something so random from so long ago can evoke such vivid memories! I feel like collecting them again now, but it might prove an expensive hobby!

There was a movie too!

I'm so pleased you've posted this as I seemed to be the only person in the world that remembered them.

My nan was disgusted by it and made me turn it off so I had to watch it in secret!

I loved these. I stuck mine all around the fireplace in my room. My mum cursed me when she came to redecorate the room after I moved out, it took her weeks to scrub off the face of Fryin' Ryan, Adam Bomb and the such like!

I wish I'd kept them as cards, but I wanted to display my collection! Foolish! Now I'm deeply jealous of anyone who still has the cards.

kaputt · 16/12/2016 09:51

There's a book of them - not the same joy as coming with the gum, but I think it does have some stickers:

We found these on the back of the cupboard door when we moved house ... they are still there !

I remember them. Seem to remember that some or all cards had a "twin" with some twins very rare.

Can't actually remember too many though. Adam Bomb? Some character associated with a toilet? Another vomiting? Carrie a cavewoman? Think that's about it.

BrightonBelleCat · 16/12/2016 21:52

Yes! My mum bought me lots of packs when I was in hospital having my tonsils out. I loved them. That and a puffalump. I was in there for a week! Dd was in and out in 12 hours!

girlsyearapart · 16/12/2016 21:58

Loved them
The gum had a kind of powdery film on it Confused

ImWorriedAboutThis · 16/12/2016 22:49

Yes, I remember collecting these. Think I was about 13 at the time!
'Bad breath Seth' is one I remember Grin

fudgefeet · 16/12/2016 22:53

My daughter went out with her dad on her 9th birthday and came back with a book about the garbage pail kid stickers which she'd spent all her birthday money on. She was fascinated for about an hour, then felt sick and wanted to take the book back for a refund. I loved it so bought it off her.

Earlgreywithmilk · 16/12/2016 22:57

Omg I love this - I remember having some of these and my mum throwing them away cos they were naughty! And yes,, the smell I can conjure it up now it was very distinctive!
Thanks for the reminding me about these

HateSummer · 17/12/2016 04:35

kaputt I'm actually tempted to buy that book to show my dd! I know she'll love it (aged 9 and loves all things disgusting!)

oncandy that's so cool! I vaguely remember my siblings sticking them on wardrobe doors aswell.

I might have to watch the film, apparently it was a flop, so I'm in no hurry right now!

So glad there's others who remember! I hope they feature in Stranger Things in the next couple of seasons. It would be the right year aswell.
