Another parcel one

How the fuck am I meant to get my parcel?? Ordered last week, got a text at 8.40am today saying an attempt would be made to deliver between 7-11am. Today. Delivery attempt was made 10 mins later at 8.50...

And strangely, owing to the fact that I only got the email 10 mins before the delivery was attempted, I wasn't there. And couldn't arrange for someone to pop in for me.

It's fucking ridiculous. The phone number is an answerphone. This is more of a rant than an aibu but surely this is bollocks??

It's Hermes by the way. On the bright side, it's not Yodel who take being incompetent to a whole other level of fuckwit.

They reckon they will try again tomorrow - when there's nobody here again. Id like to tell them that, but as I can't get hold of them to arrange a time, I probably won't get my parcel. Fuck.

Surely this is a stupid, inefficient way to run a business? They must waste so much time and really piss people off constantly?

(It's a top by the way. Not life or death but I would like it for the works do on Fri which is why I fucking ordered it last week...)

Ah bollocks. It gets worse- just realised that the two items I ordered from different suppliers are in the same shipment with sodding Hermes.

Fuck. That's the whole outfit for Friday. First world problems I know....

Bloody irritating though.

I feel for you.

It's one reason why I prefer to shop in shops.

I had the same type of problem with DPD once only they texted me with the hour slot about 10 mins after they'd delivered! If I'd had the text before I wouldn't have popped down the road to feed ex-neighbour's cats - they could have waited bit longer but as I'd not been advised of slot I foolishly assumed it wasn't out for delivery yet. To make it worse I actually drove past a DPD van on the way back (about 2 mins from home) and thought 'I wonder if he'll be driving to mine later?"...

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 13/12/2016 18:29

Leave a message on the answer phone including your phone number and address - Hopefully it'll be like the ones who deliver here - they usually pick up the message very quickly and call back. I've had them phone me back and deliver the item within half an hour of me leaving a message (I assume the delivery person was very local!) Fingers crossed!

madgingermunchkin · 13/12/2016 18:32

Feel exactly the same. Yesterday and today I've had text messages at 1pm telling my they will "attempt to deliver my parcel between 10am and 2pm". I'm not going to be in tomorrow either, so it's just as well I've decided that I've changed my mind and don't want th any more.

KnowOneNose · 13/12/2016 18:43

Can you leave a note on the door with instructions to leave the parcel with a willing Wink neighbour or in a safe place.

I just tell them to leave parcels on the doorstep - I've not had one stolen yet.

Another with a Hermes cock up.

Ordered some books for DD from the Book People & (foolishly) decided to go for next day delivery as DD was desperate to read them.

Email said delivery between 1-4pm - great as I was in anyway. Another email "sorry we're running late delivery between 5-9pm" bit of a problem as we were going out at 7.00. Checked that my lovely neighbour was in & happy to take delivery. Left a note on my door asking Hermes man yo deliver to neighbour. Got home, Hermes tracking said parcel was delivered at 7.19pm. No parcel with neighbour, or next neighbour, or next neighbour.

Next morning had web chat with Hermes who said contact the Book People. The Book People said it was signed with just an initial by somebody at our address. Told him that was impossible. Her kindly refunded my postage and said he'd send another copy.

5 minutes later a very loud knock at the door followed by a thud and running feet. Looked out the door to see my parcel on the doorstep and the Hermes delivery man disappearing in a cloud of exhaust fumes.

I now have to return he new parcelSad

I don't really blame the delivery man, he was probably under a lot of unfair pressure from Hermes to meet his delivery target.

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 13/12/2016 19:57

MrsS I'd just keep the duplicate parcel if you get it. Maybe you could give it away as a gift to a relative or dd friend?

mistermagpie · 13/12/2016 20:00

Hermes are terrible, there is no depot and no decent way to contact them. One of the best things I did was get the mobile number of the Hermes guy who delivers in my area (they are usually pretty local self-employed people) and now I text him and arrange a pick up or delivery that suits us both.

DPD are my favourites, loads of updates, sensible slots and I can collect from the depot or a local shop if I need to.

theluckiest · 13/12/2016 20:11

See, that makes complete sense to me - a local delivery driver that can arrange a mutually convenient time. Not rocket science really!!

So I've asked my uncle to sit at mine for an hour (he lives round the corner) but will also try to phone the number in the morning. At some point. Between getting kids ready & going to work. Gaahhhhhh.

Although I've since discovered that I could Click n Collect John Lewis stuff from the Waitrose down the road - and it's free!! That's my backup plan if I don't get the parcel...Wink

At least it wasnt just left on your doorstep.

MrsScrubbingbrush · 14/12/2016 15:11

I may have considered that decaff but it hasn't arrived despite the tracking record saying it was delivered at 07.36 this morning. My DDs left for school at 8.45 & there was nothing there then & we live at the end of a cul de sac so nobody passing by nick it.

I'm just giving up on it & hope the Book People don't ask me to return itConfused
