To think re-education is needed about Highway Code rule 170

"watch out for pedestrians crossing a road into which you are turning. If they have started to cross they have priority, so give way"

Having been almost moan down twice this morning by cars turning left into side roads I had most definitely already started crossing, and finding this to be a regular occurrence, I'm starting to wonder if it's just me being unreasonable. Surely not?

And it applies to cyclists as much, if not more so than car drivers (especially around the university campus where I work).

YANBU especially when they haven't even bothered to indicate!. Flappy hope your son is OK!

Yesterday I narrowly missed being hit by two cars who had decided to turn left on to a footpath/cycleway I was standing on - and had the gall to start beeping at me to get out of the way.

They had decided to use it as a shortcut to access a road that was parallel to the one they were leaving and I was in their way. So some drivers clearly believe they have priority on the paths as well as on the road when making a turn.

(The two roads are like the sides of an 'H' with the cycleway as the centre line running between them).

Absolutely agree. I have to cross several side roads on my way into town so I totally hear where you're coming from.

Having said that, when driving in the area I'm always shocked by the number of people who don't look before crossing the road, wherever they are.

YANBU, this is one of the most widely ignored rules in the Highway Code. I tend to give people the death stare and carry on walking slowly (eye contact is always good to make sure people know you are there).
