To wonder why so many taxi drivers dont have lights in the back of their cabs.

I only use a taxi twice a week when i do grocery shopping but every bloody winter its the same problem. No light at all in the back of cabs so when you get your purse out to pay at the end of the journey you cant see what you are doing. If i want to find something in my handbag like my phone i cant bloody see what im doing.

Its bloody irritating Is it done to save money? I once had a driver yell at me to turn it off on an occasion where there was a light in the back and i turned it on for just a few seconds so i could find my phone.

Its ridiculous.

It is dangerous for them to drive with a light on.

statetrooperstacey · 11/12/2016 20:20

I believe it's illegal. Sit in the front? Open the door so the light comes on? Have your purse in your hand and use the light from your phone?

ivykaty44 · 11/12/2016 20:21

I guess people do what you did and turn the light on whilst travelling - which is dangerous, therefore if you get rid of the light it can't happen

gamerchick · 11/12/2016 20:24

You mean like a light on all the time? Confused

IpDipCatnip · 11/12/2016 20:24

Errrr.... you do know that an inside light makes it difficult to see out of a window don't you? So yes it's very dangerous in a car Xmas Confused

HelenaDove · 11/12/2016 20:25

I prefer to sit in the back so i can hold the more delicate shopping like the eggs without them getting broken. If i sit in the front i will have to have them down at my feet or leave them on the back seat. If he has to brake sharply they could get broken. If i have them down at my feet they could get trodden on . I cant have them and my handbag on my lap while rummaging around in my bag to pay at the same time.

Then have your money ready before you've got in the taxi. You can't have a light on in a car.

HelenaDove · 11/12/2016 20:27

No i dont mean a light on all the time. I mean one i can switch on at the end of the journey when the car is parked.

In the situ i talked about in the OP the taxi was parked.

gamer Unless i know exactly how much the fare is going to be thats not possible. Depends what the traffic is like and how many traffic lights you are going to come across.

gamerchick · 11/12/2016 20:31

If you do the same journey twice a week you will have a rough idea surely?

HelenaDove · 11/12/2016 20:32

Im talking about no lights even in existence in the back of a cab. I only want to switch it on at the end of a journey so i can see to pay.

OP posts:
HelenaDove · 11/12/2016 20:33

A rough idea yes. So i will make sure i have the money ready.

I just think that since you are paying for a service it shouldnt have to be a struggle.

The eggs might get trodden on if you put them near your feet?Really?! I mean what are you doing with your feet, Tap dancing ? You would know they were there tho , so u could just be careful, that might work.
Or a small torch or you could just lean forward through the front seats,. Many many solutions to this tiny problem I think.

gamerchick · 11/12/2016 20:50

Or a head torch, that would make an impressive point OP Grin in fact I can picture someone doing that. It would make me chuckle.

HelenaDove · 11/12/2016 20:52

DH has an old one I might borrow his. Xmas Grin

statetrooperstacey · 11/12/2016 20:54

Yeah a head torch, make sure it's a wind up noisy one. Or a dynamo! You could power it with your tap dancing. Or send up a flare .

specialsubject · 11/12/2016 20:57

No lights because some dipstick will turn it on and make it dangerous for the driver. And the dipstick.

Don't you carry a small torch when you are out after dark

gamerchick · 11/12/2016 20:58

Do it man, it'll give you a laugh anyway Grin

OnionKnight · 11/12/2016 21:01

The taxis around here have lights in the back that the drivers switch on if necessary when we stop at the destination.

Lewwat · 11/12/2016 21:21

The eggs might get broken?? What do you think people who drive themselves do?

Nicnak2223 · 11/12/2016 21:25

lewwat exactly what I was thinking...

whyohwhy000 · 11/12/2016 21:27

Have you ever tried to drive with a light on?

StCecilia · 11/12/2016 21:35

Sorry OP but you've given me the giggles.

I'm imagining you sat in the back of a black cab, with your head torch on whilst carefully balancing loose eggs, for some reason in my mind you're also wearing evening dress, fur coat and tiara - I think I've eaten too much cheese this weekend! Grin
