To throw my printer off a tall building?

It just will not work! I has brand new HP cartridges in bought at great expense but it is telling me that it has counterfeit ink and the ink is low.
When I send something to print I get an error message saying the printer is not connected. It is connected!
It is driving me insane! Any suggestions? Not too complicated please I'm a bit of a luddite!

I know this sounds obvious, but make sure the flap you open to put the cartridges in is closed. I have two HP printers sitting in the attic because of this! It wouldn't work, so after trying everything I could think of, I went out and bought a new one, but it wouldn't work either! Only after I went to the shop I realised that I wasn't meant to see the cartridges. Blush

borntobequiet · 11/12/2016 18:40

No. All printers are the work of the Devil.

JellyBelli · 11/12/2016 18:40

I got a chip resetter off Ebay for a fiver and it fixed the bastard.

LumelaMme · 11/12/2016 18:46

No, but just check that it won't hit anyone before you lob it off the side.

Glad it's not just me! I've switched it off for today as I was about to explode with rage but I might have another look at it tomorrow after getting to work nice and early to sneakily print it there

With my last printer I had to turn the wifi on the printer off and then back on again every single time to get the useless pile of shite to remember that yes, it was on the wifi and did know all about the existence of my laptop.

Any shit printer thread makes me think of - swear alert

There is a way round this. Something like you take the problem cartridge out and then turn the printer off, make a cup of tea, then turn it on again, then it spots there's no cartridge and accepts the new one. worked with mine, but it was an Epson not HP.

OP, I think you'll appreciate this scene from Office Space:

We've all been there.

MycatsaPirate · 11/12/2016 20:55

yanbu

Hence lobbing ours at the tip and buying an ink tank printer.

Yes, it cost a lot but it only costs £9 to refill the damn thing AND the refills last for up to two years.

Can honestly say it was the best money ever spent.

Lorelei76 · 11/12/2016 21:01

Beat me to it with Office Space! Grin

CondensedMilkSarnies · 11/12/2016 21:04

I find that if you don't use it every 5 minutes the ink dries up.

70ontheinside · 11/12/2016 21:13

HP offer some kind of online fixing tool. Not very user friendly, so pop some Valium before you try again.
If nothing else helps Google Eddie Izzard CTRL+P print Grin

SnugglySnerd · 11/12/2016 21:55

Love that video - that is exactly how I feel! Possibly the ink has dried up, I haven't used it for a while, mainly because it won't fucking work!

HP online help is bloody hard work.
OP if you've not seen Office Space, I highly recommend it!
