Postman signing or packages himself

Our Postman has been opening our front door and putting packages in our hall - he doesn't even bother knocking so far as I know. If the package needs signed for he signs the name of whoever the parcel is addressed to. I know this because I looked up the tracking online and it wasn't a signature of anyone in the house. Well the other day he did the same but it was actually a parcel addressed to a neighbour - again he signed with my name. AIBU to think this is a bit ridiculous. Ok it technically saves us picking the parcel up from the sorting office but it just seems wrong.

Who leaves their front door unlocked so any stranger can get in??!

Sometimes I'm bloody glad I have an old fashioned door with a yale lock that means once it's shut you can't open it from the outside without a sodding key.

My postie was lovely, used to leave them in a safe place in my back garden or pop them through the cat flap if I was out!

I had a postman that did this, but on one occasion the parcel was too big for the letterbox and he left it on the step. It went missing as I was actually away at the time, and as a result of the signature, which was in my name I was unable to claim for a replacement, and also accused of attempted theft by the ebay seller I bought from. My mail was sitting inside my door on the ledge. I only noticed when the postman knocked at the door to deliver a parcel. I still don't know how it got there.

So he's signing for you and making sure the package is safe.

Not really - only takes a thieving passer-by to open the door as well and nick all the parcels!

Lock your door OP.

Ours often signs and puts inside if door is open. We are grateful as it's about 15 miles to the sorting office. If the door is locked he'll pop it in a cupboard in the church next door and leave a note for us or give to a neighbour. Our village is tiny so we all usually have unlocked doors. We are delighted he is willing to do,so.
