Well done BBC. Completely ignored the puppy is for life and not for Christmas

Casualty tonight

Spur of the moment puppy, picked at the last minute by Connie and given as a Christmas present to Grace

Well done Hmm

As if half the country is going to go out and buy a dog for Christmas 'cos they've seen it on casualty'Hmm

ItsTimeForDuggee · 10/12/2016 22:05

Connie had promised grace a puppy before her accident

AnaG1ypta · 10/12/2016 22:06

Isn't it something they were discussing before the accident?

AnaG1ypta · 10/12/2016 22:06

X-post!

Soubriquet · 10/12/2016 22:07

It's not the point is it?

It is reinforcing the message that animals can be given as gifts.

Fair enough they don't have time to cover all what comes with researching breeders etc, but by picking a random litter off the Internet with the message of "it's the last puppy. So if we want it we have to go now" is not exactly good is it?

OP posts:
blankpieceofpaper · 10/12/2016 22:08

Yeah, it was mentioned before.

SausageSoda · 10/12/2016 22:10

But animals can be given as gifts if it's discussed beforehand with the new owner, it's what they want as a gift and they intend to care for the animal for life.

NotStoppedAllDay · 10/12/2016 22:10

I'd love my xmas present to be a dog

Shoot me now Hmm

Soubriquet · 10/12/2016 22:13

The only time this puppy is mentioned is when grace is in a coma

Otherwise Connie has been adamant she will not be getting a dog

Hardly the time to discuss ideal pet ownership is it?

OP posts:
ItsTimeForDuggee · 10/12/2016 22:16

No it wasn't just before the accident happened Connie said they could get one

delilabell · 10/12/2016 22:16

Totally off track but why are they starting to play really weird music in the background at random points? ( just watching on catchup )

Soubriquet · 10/12/2016 22:17

No idea delila I hadn't noticed

ClassmateHB · 10/12/2016 22:19

They were having an argument about a dog before the accident. Then in the car before they crashed she said she'd think about it - when Grace lived, in the coma, she said a definite yes. And I got the impression that Jacob found it like a therapy style dog, for her recovery. I didn't see any link between the dog not just for Christmas message tbh, as a long term watcher.

ClassmateHB · 10/12/2016 22:20

Yes Delila, I almost started a post tonight about the dodgy music background!!!

NotStoppedAllDay · 10/12/2016 22:20

Omg it's a trashy Saturday night programme.... not real! You are over analysing a dodgy script

delilabell · 10/12/2016 22:29

Glad I'm not the only one! I really don't like it, mostly because it seems to be at random tines but also because it sounds like lift music!

ClassmateHB · 10/12/2016 22:32

I noticed it mostly in the cringey scenes with Charlie and Duffy. Bleurgh.

OurBlanche · 10/12/2016 22:32

Odd. I thought the dog was one of the more expected things...given it had been signposted so heavily, almost as a harbinger of the accident...

But, as a very intermittent watcher these days, I am glad I saw Duffy and Charlie's moment. Doubt it will last, but hey!

Animals can be given as gifts.

Just not as a surprise for the owner.

Soubriquet · 10/12/2016 22:36

I've only watched Casualty once and that was a few months back, when it was the helicopter crash thingy (says a fair bit about me when I can't be arsed to watch it normally, but the second there's a possibility of mass carnage, I'm excitedly tuning in Hmm) - is Grace the female doctor's daughter who was in the crash? I suppose, if so, she deserved a puppy after that, but I get your drift. I don't think people will be rushing out to buy them on the back of this episode, but I understand what you mean by it reinforcing a thought process that the RSPCA have been trying to reverse for decades.

might start watching it again

WorraLiberty · 10/12/2016 22:52

We're getting a turkey this year as usual.

Soubriquet · 10/12/2016 22:54

Yes Grace is the female doctors daughter who was involved in the crash

And tbh if my daughter went though all that and all she wanted was a puppy, I would probably get her one too Grin

But that's not the point. It's just reinforced the message to joe public that you can go out and buy a puppy whenever you want
