Drinking during the "two week wait"

Just looking for a bit of advice please! I'm TTC and I'm due to come on my period next Friday/Saturday. On Wednesday we have our work Christmas night out (small team) and my boss has arranged a lift for us all so we can have a festive drink. AIBU to drink when technically I could be pregnant? I'm not planning on drinking loads (literally 1-2 glasses of wine as I'm not a big drinker anyway) but for some reason I feel really guilty. Offering to be a designated driver or claiming I'm on antibiotics or something to get out of drinking is not an option. If I go and don't drink I know my team will assume I'm pregnant. Just in the interest of full disclosure I've been TTC for nearly two years with one miscarriage which my workplace don't know about so I don't want to be faced with "OMG are you pregnant" comments! It may also explain why I'm overthinking this (if I am!).

Nah go for it

Most people drink normally until they miss a period and then test

Even if you are pregnant, at such an early stage the embryo isn't connected to the placenta and won't be getting alcohol from your blood stream - go for it!

Sandsnake · 09/12/2016 18:51

I would have a drink. As far as I recall you don't share a blood supply with the foetus for the first five weeks or so anyway. Best of luck with TTC OP and have a Happy Christmas!Xmas Smile

Drink! Even if you are pregnant it is literally a bunch of cells at this stage.

PegEgg · 09/12/2016 18:55

Enjoy a drink. Might be your last chance for a while!

A lot of people drink not knowing that they're pregnant in the very early stages plus, as Fenella says, there won't be any alcohol being passed through the placenta. Go for it.

I think don't worry about it - go along, relax and have fun.
I've had 2 rounds of IVF and have been told on both of them that the odd glass will not do any harm. Think about how many people there are who don't know they're pregnant and have a drink.

I didn't know I was pregnant with DS2 and found out I was pregnant January 5th. I spent my 2ww drinking all Xhristmas long!

DS2 is now a big strong funny intelligent 7yo.

haveacupoftea · 09/12/2016 20:18

It would be a long tww without a drink! Enjoy your party!

Pattakiller · 09/12/2016 20:26

I always made the most of drinking as much as I wanted in those 2 weeks, might be your last chance for more than a year!

PetalMettle · 09/12/2016 20:34

I was ttc for 20 months and always avoided drinking dirjng the 2ww - we had a work dinner one night and so I took a test which was negative, got stuck into the champagne - and 3 days later had a positive test! Ds is fine.
Enjoy your night and hope you get a positive soon x

You've convinced me Xmas Wink
I'm enjoying the "I had a drink and found out I was pregnant" tales! Maybe alcohol can be my good luck charm!
