Vile vile stuff that gives me a headache and makes me feel sick. I don't think they contain anything natural like essential oils, just loads of artificial chemicals.

Cheap and nasty.

YANBU.

HairsprayBabe · 09/12/2016 14:36

YABVVVVVVU
They are lovely, maybe you haven't found a fragrance you like yet?

Much nicer than the bloody expensive Jo Malone or DIPtyhrth whatever shite, and reasonably priced too.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 09/12/2016 14:37

Yanbu, chemical YUK

I think you do need to spend a few $$$ hence why I don't have any!

DesignedForLife · 09/12/2016 14:37

YANBU. Give me asthma attacks. SIL loves them and keeps giving me on ever year. Don't know what to do with them.

well, lets agree to disagree on that!!! Grin

HairsprayBabe · 09/12/2016 14:39

Designed Send them to meeeeeeeeee

Cellardoor23 · 09/12/2016 14:40

I don't mind them. It's the half a dozen perfume counters in the bigger shops that I find off putting. The smell makes me feel sick and gives me a headache. It's horrible.

Cellardoor23 · 09/12/2016 14:42

I like candles but i wouldn't spend anymore than about £20 on one and even then I think that's expensive. I might as well just burn my money instead.

ppeatfruit · 09/12/2016 14:45

You 're so being totally reasonable man, they smell like effing toilet cleaner type things YUCK YUCK. Full of paraffin, give me a beeswax candle or the Diptych ones with natural essential oil scents anytime!!!!

TheSconeOfStone · 09/12/2016 14:45

YANBU. They smell vile. Hits the back of your throat. They're really popular so what would I know.

Cellardoor23 · 09/12/2016 14:50

I think all candles, natural oils or not, can be nauseating.

Glitterkitten24 · 09/12/2016 14:53

I used to love Yankee candles but I've gone right off them- i got the advent candle last year and the candles smelled of nothing, I was so disappointed.

I treated myself to a large jar this Christmas and its burning in a column down the centre, not right out to the edges, even when I leave it burning for ages.

JorahsMissus · 09/12/2016 15:07

YABU, the clean, fresh scents are lovely. The xmas/food type scents are vile though. I got a set of minis for my birthday recently and don't like the xmas scents however when DP is doing the cleaning he lights them and after a little while they don't smell too bad.

I would be very happy getting a load of YC candles for xmas as long as they were the nice scents.

JorahsMissus · 09/12/2016 15:08

Can anyone suggest any other really nice brands which aren't any more expensive than yankee? I love a good strong, long lasting scent.

Thisjustinno · 09/12/2016 15:11

As I posted, I love them but would never buy the jar candles (I'm not paying that! and I like to have different fragrances all the time). I've got an electric tart burner so I burn tarts or cut votive candles in half, remove the metal bit and wick and use those too.

Ragwort · 09/12/2016 15:12

I like them Smile - does anyone have those Wicker ones that are meant to 'cackle' as they burn, are they any good?

LaurieMarlow · 09/12/2016 15:12

I can't bear any kind of scented candle, even the really expensive ones.

But at least they don't cost the earth, even if they're foul.

Islacornx · 09/12/2016 15:22

YANBU!!
I get instant headaches from them too! They make me feel so unwell!
I can't walk past lush either, even being close to it the smell is just so overpowering Sad

ppeatfruit · 09/12/2016 15:32

DH bought a really expensive American (holiday scented) candle back from the states last year. Now I like the smell of cinnamon normally but THIS, Xmas Shock Xmas Shock OMG it STANK to high heaven of cinnamon , it must have been a chemical version , it made everyone, including dh feel sooo sick I had to throw it away in an outside bin. Wrapped up in wads of newspaper.

Katiepoes · 09/12/2016 15:35

It's not the smell exactly, some smell okay, it's just that if I am in a room where one is burning after 15 minutes I can almost feel the smell in my nose and it becomes a headache. The shops are unbearable - and for the poster that mentioned Lush - yes exactly, they are truly nasty smell wise.

fluffygal · 09/12/2016 15:35

I don't get it- they don't smell of anything when you burn them? Scented candles are a waste of money.

ppeatfruit · 09/12/2016 15:38

Yes that's true katie They are sometimes alright for the first 5 mins or so but then they get unbearable.

fluffygal maybe your nose is blocked Grin !

Wifflewaffles · 09/12/2016 15:41

I did like them, but I'd only pay £1 for the mini ones. I've gone off them now, as they don't smell very strong when I burn them. I prefer the bath and body works ones from the US. They smell nicer and stronger.

Awful things. Smell artificial and horrid. Leave black stains on ceilings. Really really dislike them.
