So every year I look forward to the annual school photo.... and every year I am totally underwhelmed by the outcome.

Is it to much to ask a professional photographer (apparently) to try and capture a decent photo, make sure that hair is at least brushed and that DC dont look absolute muppets - how difficult can it be?

Easy money - just received ours - 3 photos for £25 which arent even mounted.

Hmm

I was really pleased with ours this year, my DS is in reception and in all his nursery photos he wouldn't smile or even look at the camera properly, but in his first school photo he has the biggest, cheesiest grin ever and looks gorgeous. DD's was lovely too and the joint one is fab. But yes, the prices are extortionate 😠

With regards to the hair being brushed, you are being unreasonable, unless every parent is required to send in a hairbrush on the day. Otherwise, the children's hair cannot be brushed, as you are probably aware that the chances of children getting headlice in school settings are already high enough, without increasing the risk by brushing all of their hair with the same hairbrush!

We had ours last month. I've got 2 at a primary school and 2 at a junior school. The primary schools photographer is useless. We're a large family and like to get the group shot of the siblings, they can't even fit us on because they are 'not prepared for large families'. We have to be at school before 8am to have those and it's always packed out.
In the individual shots, the kids always look scruffy and will often be in pe kit or have dinner all over them if that's when they're called for their photo.

The junior schools is brill. The individual shots were nice and the group shot was lovely. We go after school for that by appointment and the kids can wear whatever they like. They spend 10 mins taking several different shots and you get a choice. It's always calm because everyone knows what they're doing. Much prefer it.

They are outrageously expensive but at least our school got a good photographer. We had about 6 shots to choose from all of them nice (which is an achievement for my DS who usually has wild hair and does a maniacal grin whenever anyone takes his photo).
