My friend's son has a birthday party coming up, we are kind of close (work together) and my son is in his class at school. I asked for gift ideas from his mum (so things he likes, so not exact gifts) and she said Finding Dory.

There's an amazing sale in the Disney store for a giant Large Dory Soft Toy! It's half price. Would it piss you off? Grin it's not huge, but it's big enough, see, I love soft toys so it wouldn't bother me, but DS doesn't have a lot in his room so keeps them all in a corner.

No thanks from me too. DS bought girlfriend of the time (at her insistence) a huge, and I mean a large child sized monkey. I told him it was stupid at the time. when they split up guess what ended up back with DS ??

Fortunately a forever home was found for it...eventually.

WuTangFlan · 09/12/2016 14:52

DC would love it for the day it was given, then it would be shoved under the massive pile of soft toys they have already. If you're going to spend £20 on Finding Dory you could do better.

Fiveandahalfweeks · 09/12/2016 14:56

Pleased check with the mother first. I'd pretend to be delighted but secretly curse you til I could get rid of it. Sorry.

blaeberry · 09/12/2016 15:02

Fine but I would then buy your ds a drum kit...

LaurieMarlow · 09/12/2016 15:17

Yeah I'd find that irritating. I'm not one for Disney merchandise and I hate large soft toys. DS has a small bedroom and far too much cuddly tat

Sorry.

QueenLizIII · 09/12/2016 16:02

This might be more portable.

Jinglejess that made me snort. That thread is genius.

I'd not be happy. Depends on receiver's home also. I'm in a tiny flat. Big teddies not welcome.

Alidoll · 11/12/2016 17:27

What about the Finding Dory Tsum Tsum kit (it's the same price) or a couple of Dory items such as the beanie hat plus a smaller Dory etc.

Purplebluebird · 11/12/2016 18:06

I would be grumpy :P Soft toys take up so much space, and quite frankly they are not that great for playing with. We have some, but thankfully not that many (yet). Don't plan on getting more until little one starts asking for them.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 11/12/2016 18:13

I would think it a brilliant idea, we have those enormous cuddly handmuff things in the shape of animals, and we use them as pillows for sitting up for stories, nice and cuddly they are too.

What a fab present and so thoughtful of you to ask.

Booboo66 · 11/12/2016 18:29

How old is the dc, are they an only child, is there lots of space in the house and do they like soft toys? My DD's love them for about 5 minutes then lose interest as they can't really play with them. They forget about them pretty quickly so the turnover time from entering the house to leaving in a charity bag is fairly short. Still seems to be loads of them cluttering up their smallish shared bedroom though so always a bit eye rolly if more are added to the collection.

Hellochicken · 11/12/2016 18:33

Oh dear!
I just bought a 7 yr old a wooden crossbow. It is a toy, but reading some of these replies, pissed off at a soft teddy! His parents are probably livid.

zukiecat · 11/12/2016 18:39

My DC are grown up now, but they loved soft toys and always loved getting them, they'd be delighted with a toy from their favourite film

In fact, we all still like soft toys, DD1 has moved out now but DD2 and me buy each other small ones throughout the year

gemma19846 · 11/12/2016 18:45

Does she not mean the Finding Dory DVD?

Puffinitee · 11/12/2016 18:46

Haven't RTFT, but 20 quid for a child's birthday present?!?! Not looking forward to that stage!

EvenTheWind · 11/12/2016 19:11

No. I'd get something smaller on the theme.

I certainly would not say "nothing too big" spontaneously so I wouldn't assume based on her not saying it that you can go nuts on size!

WeAllHaveWings · 11/12/2016 19:27

I love it. Its like a huge pillow he can use in his bed, you've been told he's a finding Dory fan so its perfect.

ThePinkOcelot · 11/12/2016 19:27

Definitely a thanks but no thanks from me. I hate soft toys with a passion. They are so boring. That don't do anything. Hate them.

Sarahrellyboo1987 · 11/12/2016 19:32

Yeah, I hate big toys! I don't mind noisy toys - but big toys piss me off as I just don't have the space for them.
The entertainer has loads of finding dory stuff for 80-90% off at the moment

lionsleepstonight · 11/12/2016 19:32

Soft toys don't really 'do' anything do they? With that healthy budget I think you'd get something with a longer lifespan.

GoLightlyHollie · 11/12/2016 19:41

Whether the mother likes it or not is irrelevant. No matter what my children receive for their birthdays, no matter whether it is tat or whether I think it's awful; the fact is, I'm just grateful someone brought a gift for my DC.
So you go right ahead, OP and they are the ones being unreasonable if don't like it.

lljkk · 11/12/2016 19:41

It's not too big imho.
It is too expensive, you'll put burden on them to spend as much on you in return.
My 8yo wants a 5' tall teddy for Christmas (sigh). He wanted the 7' one, actually, but I refused!!

RichardBucket · 11/12/2016 19:42

I think the size is fine but my memory of big soft toys is I hardly ever played with them. I think it'd get shoved in a corner and collect dust, so for that reason wouldn't buy it.
