To be annoyed with all the waffle and preamble before people get to the point on here

So many times someone will start a thread, post a huge wall of text, often poorly paragraphed, and a fair chunk is just waffle when they could get to the point in about two sentences.

OP posts:
ElsaAintAsColdAsMe · 08/12/2016 15:10

Then they are accused of drip feeding.

You can't win.

NotStoppedAllDay · 08/12/2016 15:10

Yabu

We are all different....can't all be how you would want us to be

Why is your title so rambling and long?

CockOhDial · 08/12/2016 15:11

I agree with NotStoppedAllDay

Hellmouth · 08/12/2016 15:13

I agree with all previous posters. YABU.

ChocoChou · 08/12/2016 15:27

The whole 'name changed for this one' makes me Hmm half the time. (Sometimes I can see the reasoning but not all of the time)

2014newme · 08/12/2016 15:31

Agree.
Also agree about pointless namechanging

NotStoppedAllDay · 08/12/2016 15:40

Well, this is a dull thread!

crashdoll · 08/12/2016 15:55

What's with all the thread prefects on here at the moment?

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 08/12/2016 16:03

I get lost on the "lets call her A, lets call him B... lets call her L" type threads.

I'm a fine one to comment though, I rarely reply with less than 4 substantial paragraphs!

ItsALLAboutMeMeMeMeME · 08/12/2016 16:14

Somewhat Guilty of same. Trouble is there's no edit function on here, so you can't go back and excise what you later spot is superfluous info or add in points you may have missed so as to avoid later drip feeding.

wasonthelist · 08/12/2016 16:21

YANBU - prefer a concise OP, preferably with a diagram.

Getabloominmoveon · 08/12/2016 16:21

OP, totally agree. I wish people would cut to the chase. Time for a word limit?

TheNaze73 · 08/12/2016 16:22

YANBU, I wish there was a cut to the chase emoji.

When they say my partner doesn't listen to me, it really doesn't surprise me.

Reminds me of someone, the way they digress & bring in inconsequential nonsense into the 200 line message.

Each to their own, everyone is different Smile

SheldonsSpot · 08/12/2016 16:22

Your title said it all, you didn't need the waffle in your OP too Grin

RedLemonade · 08/12/2016 16:26

I'm a waffle Queen, so YABU.

(Briefest post I've ever written.)

ScrumpyBetty · 08/12/2016 16:28

Get to the point OP Grin

toffee1000 · 08/12/2016 16:35

Sometimes people need to explain the situation. Yes to pps who say drip feeding is also criticised.
Yabu

CozumelFox · 08/12/2016 17:16

More accurately you're probably cross at people who can't tell a story - both ends of the spectrum are irritating. The one paragraph of "So my sister said she wouldn't and now her DH is well pissed so what do I do?" leaving people confused, and the epic story dating back to 1987 which could have been condensed into "My sister and I have had some fallings out over the years..."

It's a skill to be able to select a few relevant points and summarise them just enough for the audience to follow, without going off on tangents and keeping things succinct and understandable. Can't really blame those who don't have it.

BolivarAtasco · 08/12/2016 19:54

Yes, agree with cozumel. It's basically people doing a brain dump without thinking that it makes it incredibly hard to read and follow.

Some of the epic OPs which go into ridiculous levels of detail before actually getting to the point puts me off reading them. But then equally, you get someone who tells a horrendous story, the next poster suggests it's not the whole story so the OP says 'oh yes, it was Thursday not Friday when it happened' and there's a chorus of 'MASSIVE drip feed there!'
