Was I unreasonable? Road rage issue

Ok. So I was on a road where traffic was parted down one side of the road. Not my side. I had to stop as oncoming cars were coming through. Maybe 5 or so cars came through and I then moved forward on "my" clear side. I saw a van coming down so, reversed again slightly and let him through. I moved forward again. A car came at some speed down the road as if to say "I'm coming through too". I just carried on as frankly, I could have sat there all day and had to get moving. The young woman in the car sped up to my bumper with inches to spare and started grinding and "shooing" me with her arms to reverse. I shook my head. She could have pulled in at several places on her side, despite the parked vehicles so, I just sat there. A queue formed either side of us. People bibbing and getting cross. So, I got out and said I'm not reversing again. People started verbally attacking me. There were two men by the grass verge who stepping in to defend me, having seen what had happened and the woman's zooming up on my side of the road in a "You can sit and wait for me as well" manner.

Was I unreasonable? Should I have reversed a second time?

I do believe you Bre, thanks for the additional info.

hungryhippo90 · 08/12/2016 12:30

A similar thing happened to me this morning. My right of way. I think, I'm not pulling over and reversing, why should I? I bloody spend my life reversing up this road, despite it being my right of way. So the woman flashes the lights at me, revs her engine and inches toward me... as I think no. I shall not move. It's my right of way.
She finally pulls over. As I start to drive she's tapping her head and waving her arms about, opens her window as she's shouting,
Atleast she was on her side of the road by then.
Why don't people realise that yes, that's their side of the road, the obstruction is on their side of the road, they should pull over if it means they are in the way of the traffic in its natural flowing direction? Argh!

Breagha85 · 08/12/2016 12:30

Sorry Buster that second post was for general consumption, rather than aimed directly at you.

Ahickiefromkinickie · 08/12/2016 12:38

79 posts later and I'm still not clear on who reversed in the end, OP?

By the way, you are my hero, I would have done the same.

Watch this, this woman has major cojones

Bre Grin

MargaretCavendish. No, not at all. Not parked in the middle of the road. She ^mounted the kerb and drive over someone's front lawn. I was NOT in the middle of the road. It was a normal residential street. Houses either side. Cars parked on "her" side of the road...cars outside the house. I'm sorry, but I'm running out of ways to explain this.

I wasn't trying to be awkward. Had let vehicles pass. Had already reversed once. Drove away when they'd passed and then, three or so car lengths up, she pulled out onto MY side of the road as cars parked her her side.

Don't know what else to say.

2 Merc drivers - who'd have believed it? Wink

SirChenjin · 08/12/2016 12:53

That was in response to hickie

Eliza22 · 08/12/2016 12:53

AHickie..... No one reversed! I sat there. Engine off. The woman was more than capable of reversing initially but then traffic accumulated behind her (as it did behind me).

NinjaPosse Grin thanks for the pic!

The woman was grinning ear to ear when she said "I don't know how to reverse". Obviously, she did. The was being facetious.

I did feel sorry for the house whose lawn she screeched over. But by then, I couldn't move either and I had the guy telling me "you only have to reverse 20yards" in my face. Of course, HE hadn't seen me already do that once, for the other cars and then the van.

YANBU. Other driver needs to learn to reverse asap.

Eliza22 · 08/12/2016 13:21

AHickie ... Scary video that. Why were all the men having a go at the lady Merc driver? Was the silver Merc man ill? If he couldn't reverse, why was HE on the road? Didn't like the rudeness/aggression toward the woman driver only.

OP posts:
SirChenjin · 08/12/2016 13:39

It's impossible to tell why they were having a go at her Eliza - hard to say whether the rudeness etc was justified or not (although after 30 minutes of sitting in my car waiting for one of them to move I would have have been going ballistic)

SirChenjin · 08/12/2016 13:46

Because I have nothing better to do I looked at the Youtube comments, and apparently, according to one poster, it was "The woman's (i.e. she had priority). HOWEVER, the old boy was two thirds through the tunnel which suggests he committed to the tunnel before the woman was near enough make him stop and give way"

Although both of them behaved like a-holes.

WouldHave · 08/12/2016 16:02

But, as someone pointed out, that rather depends on what speed each car was going at. Male driver may simply have got further through because he was going faster. Given that he seemed unable to reverse, I would have thought the best response would have been for one of the other drivers to offer to do it for him.

SirChenjin · 08/12/2016 16:08

Although as it also points out, male driver was virtually all the way through the tunnel, judging by the roads curve, there is a good chance he entered when he could not see her, because she was likely around the bend before the tunnel".

SirChenjin · 08/12/2016 16:08

He reverses in the end. Hurrah Hmm

worldsworstchildren · 08/12/2016 16:38

Looking at that video, I'm sure they could have got past each other without reversing, with a bit of manoeuvring - I've driven through country lanes tighter than that...

shovetheholly · 08/12/2016 16:48

That video is the most bonkers thing I have ever seen. Seriously, it's not worth the aggro and hassle. Life is so much more pleasant if we cooperate.

Eliza22 · 08/12/2016 17:00

It WAS bonkers! I watched it again and wondered if the old guy was having a "senior moment" or some kind of cerebral event. So, I thought the woman ought to have reversed but, if they were equally being bloody minded....well, I don't know.

Wouldn't it be lovely if we could just be nice to one another? If the woman in my incident had held back and allowed me through, I'm the kind of person who'd have "double flashed" her in a no no, after YOU kind of way Smile. So, we still could've been sat there now if we'd been as "nice" as each other Grin

YANBU and sod the posters who said you were!

Eliza22 · 09/12/2016 15:47

Have settled down about it now and conclude that I definitely WBU Smile

Thanks for all the replies and take care on those busy Christmas shopping roads. There'll be a few frayed tempers on the highways I imagine, this weekend!

OP posts:
SirChenjin · 09/12/2016 21:27

You very definitely WNBU op - she was completely in the wrong
