To find facebook selling sights maddening?

Once my kids have grown out of their clothes I like to sell them on, I think I usually sell the pretty cheap too.

Just sold a bag of over 120 things for £20 (which I thought was a great bargain! Am I wrong?) I had about twenty emails asking if I'd take a fiver, if I'd send individual photos of the items, if I'd sell individually, and one asking if I could use a certain fabric softner and rewash them.

Am I missing something? I just thought this was the perfect time to sell on some clothes it's not expensive considering how much there is, they're all in great condition, I'm not even keeping the money, (we have a local charity where you can drop off brand new toys and they give them to children who won't get any on Christmas.) Why does everyone want something for nothing?!

I find that ours always ask for them to be dropped off too! I often buy stuff on there but rarely sell as it is a pain!

Note3 · 08/12/2016 08:23

Agree! I've had no shows, people asking for 50p items to be dropped off (no offer of fuel being covered), people wanting immaculate things I'm selling for a tenth of the price to be reduced even further. I go through periods of selling a few bits then having enough of it all and giving it to charity then eventually trying to sell again. It drives me mad though.

SpaceDinosaur · 08/12/2016 08:27

There's always cheeky feckers. Just be really really clear in your description. Then you can refer people back to it when they ask stupid questions.
"Mixed bag of 120 clothing items, Boys size X £20
Delivery not available (or my personal fave, can arrange local delivery -within 5 miles for £20)
Additional pics will not be forthcoming, there's 120 items people!!!
Bargain to be had!

TheWitTank · 08/12/2016 09:31

I feel your pain -I won't sell anything on FB now as it's a giant pain in the arse. Even saying 'no offers, no delivery' on the ad makes no difference. Still got messages with ridiculous offers (think £2 for £20 item) delivery requests and sob stories.

KatharinaRosalie · 08/12/2016 09:38

I've given tons of valuable stuff to charity because I can't be arsed with the cheeky feckers. Post an expensive almost new big item for free, to be picked up, and you're guaranteed to get 10 requests about additional photos, exact measurements and oh, can I deliver and drag it up to 5th floor as well.

glueandstick · 08/12/2016 10:41

Oh god I'm in this hell right now.

I have no idea what to do with the stuff, -all the usual avenues aren't taking things and the number of 'Is it brand new? I only want new and free hun' types is making me murderous.

I'm just going to hoard instead.

Gowgirl · 08/12/2016 10:43

I dump it all in the charity bags that come through the door....

Underthemoonlight · 08/12/2016 10:44

I tried to sell a lipsy dress brand new with tag on Which I bought it for 70 pounds and never fit I was selling it at 25pounds and people were expecting to buy if for lower the price. I ended up taking it off.

FlyingElbows · 08/12/2016 11:18

I saw one this morning where the poster wanted pristine condition leather two and three seater sofas to be delivered and her old ones taken away. How people have resisted the temptation to suggest dfs or scs to her I have no idea.

NancyDonahue · 08/12/2016 12:34

I'm done with them. Everything goes to the charity shop now.

A few years ago I sold a brand new with tags Elsa dress for £4 after the woman knocked me down from the £6 I wanted. I delivered it for free 2 miles away. Then, within the hour the cheeky cow put it up for sale for £10 using MY photo!

KatharinaRosalie · 08/12/2016 12:39
  • pram/potty/high chair for a baby girl urgently needed
  • I have this barely used/brand new high end brand, in beige
  • I said for a girl!
ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 08/12/2016 12:53

Nancy Shock

Chewie1986 · 08/12/2016 12:55

If they are that irritating don't use them, are you that desperate for £20 for your old tat?

You could use ebay, freeads, recycle them whatever.

JellyBelli · 08/12/2016 12:57

Ebay and freeads are the same. Entitled people are everywhere.

blueshoes · 08/12/2016 13:55

I sell my dcs' nicer clothes on eBay auctions. Never got any cheeky approaches. I don't do bundles. Maybe it is the bundles that attract chancers?

MagicDucky · 08/12/2016 22:12

No Chewie I'm not that desperate for £20, although at this time of year it would help. I'm using it to buy a toy to give to a local charity for children who won't get anything at Christmas. Not going to get much for a fiver.

OP posts:
winewolfhowls · 08/12/2016 22:21

That's a lovely thing to do magicducky, merry Christmas to you Wine

CuntyMcCuntyface · 08/12/2016 23:11

I have had this recently; selling a Christmas jumper for a fiver (!). Woman asks if I visit town 5 miles away, I tell her I do go in at 6pm 3 evenings a week. Oh good can you drop it off at such and such an address. Well no actually, you can meet me at the bus stop where I'll be waiting for my son (200 yards from her house). Oh no I can't do that, can you bring it to my work at 9.30am? No? Oh how about sending it with your daughter to school then she can pass it to Britney who will pas it on to our Kylie, oh and she needs it for tomorrow.

It's going to the charity shop tomorrow, if she wants it she can walk there and pay more than the fiver I asked for.

MrsMoastyToasty · 08/12/2016 23:33

I've also had people ask if there are any designer items in the bundle when I've made it clear that it's supermarket /high street items and have priced accordingly.

I now weigh everything in at a cash for clothes place.

JustBeingJuliet · 08/12/2016 23:45

I recently tried to give away a perfectly good, albeit, quite old leather settee and armchair. For FREE. My advert read:
Burgundy leather 3 seater plus armchair. Well used but very comfy and no rips or tears, just a few age related scratches. Needs collecting asap as have new one and cannot move in my living room! Cannot deliver, cannot help lift due to a bad back, so will need two people and a van. (Complete with several photos)

Was asked:
Can you deliver? NO Why? BECAUSE I HAVE A BAD BACK AND A SMALL CAR! I don't drive hun, can you arrange a van? PISS OFF!!!

Is it immaculate? PLEASE REFER TO DESCRIPTION!

Can you keep it for me until after Christmas? NO!!!!!

After being let down 7 times, I donated it to a charity.

Timetogetup0630 · 08/12/2016 23:50

I put quite a lot of things on freecycle and I know exactly who the people are who are going to sell them on again.....
I also won't respond to people who can only correspond in text speak....

Dizzybintess · 08/12/2016 23:56

Entitled fuckers the lot of them x

KatharinaRosalie · 09/12/2016 12:02

Who are those people who think it's perfectly reasonable to ask a person giving stuff away for free to organise a van? Confused

glueandstick · 09/12/2016 12:57

The same type who message you with 'interested' and nothing else.

QueenofallIsee · 09/12/2016 13:40

I have stopped using mine as well. What finally did it was a response to me that said 'Mine' on something i was offering for free. No please, no thank you, just Mine. Then when I gave it to someone who wasn't a rude wanker, she complained to the admin that 'she was first'. Admin tried to tell me that it wasn't up to me who I gave it to and cheeky cow was first so I was to make sure she had it. Get. to. fuck.
