Once my kids have grown out of their clothes I like to sell them on, I think I usually sell the pretty cheap too.

Just sold a bag of over 120 things for £20 (which I thought was a great bargain! Am I wrong?) I had about twenty emails asking if I'd take a fiver, if I'd send individual photos of the items, if I'd sell individually, and one asking if I could use a certain fabric softner and rewash them.

Am I missing something? I just thought this was the perfect time to sell on some clothes it's not expensive considering how much there is, they're all in great condition, I'm not even keeping the money, (we have a local charity where you can drop off brand new toys and they give them to children who won't get any on Christmas.) Why does everyone want something for nothing?!

This is the place for me. I listed a £90 rocking horse for £20 as wanted it to sell quickly as we were clearing the loft. Got a message from someone in France offering£8 including postage....hmmmm great offer but nah!
There's a baby and kids selling site here that I sell lots of my son's old toys and clothes (he has way too much and they are still like brand new when he grows out of them!). There's a girl who comments on everything that she would like to buy it then blanks any attempts to get in touch to actually follow through to sell it. She's actually nuts! She's done it to me twice and 2 of my friends too. I really do wonder what benefits there is in doing it... answers on a postcard lol!

Here is a typical post on face book site

Wanting X . Must be immaculate with no marks etc. Must be able to deliver and either free or really cheap cause I don't want to spend a lot.

Aarrgghhh

I am currently trying to sell an immaculate, well looked after, fairly new, high spec car seat.

I am asking for £40 but they often sell for more. I have offered to deliver depending on location.

This is a summary of a recent enquiry:

Her: will u take 20

Me: No, sorry, sticking at £40.

Her: 25

Me: Sorry, no, sticking at £40.

Her: 30

Me: I'm not going to take less than £40.

Her: can you deliver

Me: I might be able to - where are you?

She then tells me the area and it's a good 15 miles away from me. I put my location on the ad.

Why??

Also if anyone wants a Maxi Cosi Pebble let me know Xmas Grin

I've seen a lot of them ask if sellers can 'meet in town'. Judging by some of the rants on fb, a lot of sellers go to the effort of going to town only to be stood up.

I used to be on a 'freecycle' fb page. I waited in all evening for a woman to turn up and she didn't. So I gave the stuff to the next person, cue original woman calling me a stupid cow and reporting me to admin. She couldn't grasp the fact that it was out of order not to tell me that she couldn't make it. Admin did side with me but I left the group because it was more hassle than it was worth. I would rather give stuff to the charity shop.

AllofaFlumble - I can guarantee the library staff would have been really annoyed too - I've been on the receiving end of this. Fine if it's a really rare book but a textbook from 20 years ago ? What's the chances that it was stolen as opposed to someone forgot to stamp 'withdrawn' on it ? I can't believe your buyer made such a fuss !

SpeckledyBanana · 11/12/2016 20:49

I give the kids' clothes to the Salvation Army these days, for this reason.

Allofaflumble · 12/12/2016 19:06

Thanks queen. He was a complete pain in the arse! Shock

Freegle is the dregs. Such a shame as in theory it's a great way to get unwanted stuff to people who need or will use it.
I've had people spinning sob stories to get bags of baby clothes which I've then spotted Facebook selling sites. Or very entitled people. The last lady was due to collect texted me to say "I've got baby in the car so you'll have to bring it out to me". Ok but no please or thank you, or "would you mind if..."
Next thing I knew someone was blasting a car horn outside my house. I live on a main road and she'd just stopped in the road, on the other side to boot, traffic queued behind her. Furious drivers yelled at me as I hauled a bin bag full of clothes over the road. She then snapped at me "Thank fuck for that, I thought you weren't coming".
Everything now gets taken to the clothes recycling bin at the dump now.

YES why do those people think the rest of us go to the bother of actually paying for stuff when you can just "order" immaculate new stuff of a particular brand off freecycle and have it delivered to your door!

throwingpebbles · 12/12/2016 20:10

I tend to try and sell stuff once, and if it doesn't sell easily then I donate to a charity shop. I try and mix it up between a few different shops. If money wasn't tight (so tight all clothes for me and kids are 2nd hand) then I would just donate everything to charity shops straight off

Liiinoo · 12/12/2016 20:24

I have had some very entitled fuckers on freecycle, the worst was the one when we had an oak desk and a chair to give away. I stressed over and over again that it was a two man job to get it downstairs but when the collector picked it up it was just one courier. I really wanted to send him away, but not as much as I wanted rid of the items so I helped him get them out. He mentioned as we struggled that they had been sold on and he was going straight to the new purchasers.

OTH I have also had two occasions when people have cried with gratitude (a newish double bed where we added the bed linen and a duvet at the last minute and on another occasion a big bag of baby stuff). The baby stuff lady also sent a thank you note. Those keep me going.

thecatsarecrazy · 12/12/2016 20:24

I gave away a t.v/ dvd player last week. I know every one wants flat screens now but thought someone might like it. Had 2 people say they wanted it and what day they would collect but when I asked a time I was ignored. Then a guy asked if it was a vhs player that would record on to dvd, no. Eventually a woman said she would definitely be round as she "needed" it for her granddaughter. She did come but I got no please or thankyou.

Emmageddon · 12/12/2016 20:44

I freegled a really ancient, broken laptop for spares/repair. Cue emails asking if it had Windows 10, Microsoft office etc etc. It doesn't actually work!! It went to a charity who work with young adults teaching them basic computer repair.
