Once my kids have grown out of their clothes I like to sell them on, I think I usually sell the pretty cheap too.

Just sold a bag of over 120 things for £20 (which I thought was a great bargain! Am I wrong?) I had about twenty emails asking if I'd take a fiver, if I'd send individual photos of the items, if I'd sell individually, and one asking if I could use a certain fabric softner and rewash them.

Am I missing something? I just thought this was the perfect time to sell on some clothes it's not expensive considering how much there is, they're all in great condition, I'm not even keeping the money, (we have a local charity where you can drop off brand new toys and they give them to children who won't get any on Christmas.) Why does everyone want something for nothing?!

I was selling some toys on our local site. Stated collection only...was asked if I would deliver it - to a town 60 miles away.

I quite often post special offers for my business on them - stating the exact date it will take place, how much it will cost and what's includes in the price.

Can you guess what questions are always in the first three posts?

deblet · 09/12/2016 14:07

I have had this today. I have put two white artificial Christmas trees for free on a local selling group (FB).Collection if anyone wants them. 8 people want them but they all want them delivered, and two have asked for decoration packs as well. Seriously? I am taking them to the charity shop tomorrow or the dump. I am fed up already and I only put them on yesterday.

FizzBombBathTime · 09/12/2016 14:10

deblet whereabouts are you?! I would love a Christmas tree I've never had one before!!! And I have a big car !!

glueandstick · 09/12/2016 15:21

As it is mass eBay/gumtree time in the house I could keep this thread going for days.

A load of pram bits (specific to the make) - will you post for free (postage will be more than I'm asking) is it brand new and free? I might pop round in the next two weeks- will you keep?

I'm pretty apoplectic most days now. The few quid you get isn't worth the hassle.

Oh and it's disability top trumps too. I should be grateful they are taking stuff off my hands and therefore deliver it.

deblet · 10/12/2016 13:46

lol north notts fizzbomb

Sugarlightly · 10/12/2016 14:53

My DP was selling some of his old high end cycling stuff on eBay, so expected a few questions. The guy that emailed about his bicycle helmet was the worst;

"How often have you used it?
Do you use it any more?
How long has it been since you used it? How old is it?
Why are you selling it?"

DP was like Hmm man I just want a ps4

He won the auction, then sent another message saying "Does is fit X type of camera?" and when DP said it didn't fit any camera and this was in the ad, the guy refused to pay! Was obviously angling for something...

emmyhNL · 10/12/2016 15:14

This infuriates the hell out of me. I'm on two selling groups and the rude behaviour is appalling! A friend is packing up to move countries again so has a lot of nearly new (less than a year old) stuff going. The crap she's had so far:

  • Lower price (agreeing online and then when coming to pick up says they've only brought half of it)
  • Can you post abroad?
  • is it new? Can you wash it?

I'm shocked people can be so rude!

FizzBombBathTime · 10/12/2016 16:19

Oh dang deb I'm in Hertfordshire! Hope you manage to get them off your hands, people are so annoying eh!!

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 10/12/2016 16:42

YANBU. I sold my iPad 3 not long ago as upgraded, I can't remember how much it was worth but let's say £200. I wanted a quick sale and wasn't fussed about making money so asked for £170. People commented "£95?" "£100"

Erm, for a starter, fucking say please, or say "would you take £100?". Secondly, piss off you cheeky sods. I didn't even reply.

I was also giving away our sofa as it wouldn't have made much and the main thing was we got rid. So I put it up for free, collection only. Had about 10 "can you deliver Hun" comments. No why would I?

The worst was when someone did a begging post - she had just had a baby girl, was a single mum, no money and would love anything free or really really cheap. I commented saying I had a green travel cot going spare if she wanted it. Her response "no thanks has to be for a girl Hun". Shock

deblet · 10/12/2016 17:16

Ah sorry Fizzbomb. I am giving to the local farm project. They help young people straight out of prison and said they can find a home for it.

FizzBombBathTime · 10/12/2016 17:22

Oh great idea!

I can't believe the cheek of some people on the Facebook sites Shock

dingdongthewitchishere · 10/12/2016 17:23

There's a woman on my local group who is looking for children clothes, free, new but Ralph Lauren only. Times are hard you know.

FizzBombBathTime · 10/12/2016 17:53

dingdong

I can't believe these chancers

Fucking shocking!!

YoHoHoandabottleofTequila · 10/12/2016 18:07

It's the price people think they can sell something at that gets me.

£10 for an Elmo toy? You're deluded.

dingdongthewitchishere · 10/12/2016 21:56

FizzBomb

the saddest thing is that she gets a lot of replies, mainly with offers for second hand but free items. I have no idea why.

DonaldStott · 10/12/2016 22:01

I kid you not, there was a woman on locally asking for some 'great guy or girl' to regularly take her and pick her up from liverpool on nights out(stated would be early am pick ups) as she struggled in cars.

Someone told her to get a taxi as it would be safer than asking random people for a lift.

She said 'I'm not daft hun, would want to get to know them first'

Un fucking believable

fairgame84 · 10/12/2016 22:06

I don't bother with fb selling anymore because of entitled feckers. I've tried shpock and it's just as bad. I recently had an item for sale for buyer to collect. Cue one woman offering me £20 less and asking if I could deliver to Manchester. I live in Doncaster Hmm Cheeky mare!

northernmonkey1010 · 10/12/2016 22:43

The freebe sites are the worst though people begging to be considered with sob stories. I often want to offer dignity but must be collected!

MoggieMaeEverso · 10/12/2016 22:58

You lot all need to join your local Buy Nothing Project groups. Gifting groups with the focus on building community rather than "stuff." They are lovely!

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 10/12/2016 23:17

Just checked my local one, some greedy bastard is selling a Hatchimal for £94!

dontpokethebear · 10/12/2016 23:19

People are so cheeky.

I was recently selling a nest of brand new coffee tables for £30. A woman asked if they were still available. "Yes" I said, "great!" She said, "£20 and I'll pick them up tomorrow morn". Cheeky bitch.

dontpokethebear · 10/12/2016 23:22

cherry there was a girl on my local sites who had clearly bought up all the hatchimals she could get and was trying to sell them off at £120!!!
There was a bit of a revolt and lots of people (me included) reported the post etc etc. She got quite nasty, but gave up posting in the end. I hope se didn't sell them...

northernmonkey1010 · 11/12/2016 00:49

If I knew they were going to be so popular I would have bought some and tried to make a bit of profit that's business.

Allofaflumble · 11/12/2016 01:14

Many years ago I sold an ex library book I'd picked up from a market stall on Amazon. The person who bought it then got all suspicious and more or less accused me of stealing it!

They even wrote to the library and telephoned to speak to them to find out if the book had been officially ex listed. I got to many emails from them explaining where they had got to with their investigation.

Finally the library confirmed it was an ex library book. What got me though was they said how much they were enjoying the book which was about a Pope. Confused

It really upset me and considering the time spent packing, going to the Post office, queuing etc plus cost of posting, it was a right waste of energy!!

Allofaflumble · 11/12/2016 01:15

PS I'd clearly described it as ex library in the listing too.
