Aibu to ask which of the Moomins books are actual paperback books/novels with mainly text (like 80/90%) and not just picture books for infants?

My DD8 loved 'Moominpapa at sea' and one about a comet but I am struggling to find more of the same online and accidentally ordered a picture book!

Trying to avoid shops (other than supermarket where absolutely necessary) pre-Christmas as I find it all bit Arghhh!

Oh, and you missed off the Snork. With his need for rules, and the following of them. Definitely HF ASD.

It was Moomins & The Great Flood. One of the picture book ones with lots of illustrations (but also plenty of story).

Amy I do know the Sweeney Todd storyline, my DD doesn't and I doubt she'd deduce it from the soundtrack. She did a 3 night run with her theatre group of Sweeney in October as chorus and was well protected from the more grown-up themes in the production, just like a child actor in a horror film wouldnt be privy to the gory scenes. It was all about pies and pirelli for her! She just wants to remember the songs.

I do realise the irony here, though!

The Exploits of Moominpappa is the one where he writes his memoirs. That one has always been my favourite.

corythatwas · 08/12/2016 09:13

I used the storm in Exploits of Moomin Papa to get me through labour; it's basically CBT.

And yes, Snuffkin was my first crush too.

PhilODox · 08/12/2016 11:22

I loved it in Exploits when i was reading it to my children, and Moominpappa was reading it to his children...

DidoTwiteInnit · 08/12/2016 11:28

Snufkin was my first crush too! So wise and calm....

TinklyLittleLaugh · 08/12/2016 12:07

The thing about Snuffkin is that he ever so slightly doesn't give a shit really, not about the Moomins or anyone else. Ultimately he just does his own thing.

PhilODox · 08/12/2016 12:16

Yes, and I think that is what appeals so much- both to children (still by nature selfish) and mothers (sick of sharing every little thing they have!)

LumpySpacedPrincess · 08/12/2016 12:46

Dh read these to our daughter from the ages of 2 until she was ten, they just went round and round the books, bloody lovely. I bought dh a plate in the Moomin shop last month for his birthday, bloody love Moomins.
