To ask what are you putting in your DC Christmas stockings?

MothersRuinart · 07/12/2016 13:05

Just interested in this Christmas stocking tradition in UK. I'm not British so we didn't do anything similar as a child. But now I have a DS3 and I think he'd love it. I'd love to hear what kind of things you are planning to put in your DCs Christmas stockings. Just sweets, little toys or something bigger? Would the child normally open it on Christmas morning?

Unicorn wipes

Please enlighten me. Is the big surprise a Unicorn in the garden? Xmas Grin

BeBesideTheSea · 07/12/2016 14:30

Has to be a satsuma (which DS is allergic to so will go back in fruit bowl), chocolate coins, sugar mouse and an annual. Then enough little things to keep him amused until 7am!

formerbabe · 07/12/2016 14:37

Forgot to add I got mine a Christmas gingerbread baking kit from the supermarket...thought it would be a good activity if they are bored on boxing day!

SenseiWoo · 07/12/2016 14:58

Ooh, I forgot about sugar mice! That's a great idea!

HairsprayBabe · 07/12/2016 15:10

I never had them as a child only got my first one last year after DP insisted!

This year he is getting
Some rocks for his rock collection
a bar of fancy soap
sour skittles
a pen in the shape of a dinosaur
some chocolate coins
a giant chocolate button
a key ring
A pencil with a rabbit on the top

TiredBefuddledRose · 07/12/2016 17:55

My 7 year old twin daughters will have :
Tube of pink smarties
Bag chocolate coins
2pk shopkins
2pk grossery gang
Set of colouring pencils
Doll
Cute christmas socks in a bauble

The moody teenager 14 will have:
Rainbow socks
Make up brush set
Lip balm
Pride bracelet
Pink Smarties
Chocolate coins
2 pairs of earrings
Earphones
Some sort of perfume set

They all have their stockings at the end of their beds but bring them into my room to open in my bed.

A good tip is to buy your son 2 identical stockings so you can just swap the ready filled stocking for the empty one, trying to fill the stocking next to them while they're asleep is hard work!!!

SpiritedLondon · 07/12/2016 18:06

I haven't really bought all my stuff yet but I would say the satsuma and chocolate gold coins are compulsory. I think if you're desperate you can get away without indubitably wrapping everything although it's more fun if you do. My husband unfortunately insists on having one too which is extra work. I shall probably head to Tiger for the bits !

SpiritedLondon · 07/12/2016 18:07

Dd is 22 this year.

I do her a themed stocking. This year is 'tea'. Last year was 'eggs'. The year before was 'Jesus'.

Small cheapies here -
Satsuma (which will end up back in the fruit bowl).
A couple of chocolate coins.
A walnut (which will end up back in the nut bowl).
A polystyrene glider thing - 15p jobbie
One of those flannels which is a hard cube but turns into a flannel when you stick it in water.
A mock matchstick car.
A tiny notebook and pencil.

Might go and raid poundland for Christmas socks actually; not thought of them.

All small trinkets here, aim is to have little fiddle toy things to a) delay getting up a little and b) keep them entertained through church and until we open our main presents (normally not til noon here).
