To cancel DS's hospital appointment?

DS is 13 months. He has been referred to the hospital about his umbilical hernia. The appointment is on Thursday. We were referred a couple of months ago as he was having bad stomach pains and it looked like an inch of intestine had popped out (although I've since been reassured that the two were not linked)

DH thinks I should cancel it as it seems to be improving by itself. DS seems fine in himself and the bit sticking out has got smaller.

Is it too late to cancel the appointment? Or should I take him just in case?

I am probably being totoally neurotic on this but we've been through it a bit with his health although he has turned out fine. I am finding it difficult to be objective on this one.

Fridays are bad enough when your child seems a bit poorly,
but to cancel near Christmas.
Please don't take any chances.

Unusual to be referred for this at this age - most go by themselves by the age of 2, so I generally don't refer unless it's still there at 2. Can you get a phone call with your GP tomorrow and find out if the referral was for a specific concern or just for "parental anxiety" - if the latter you could cancel.

PS - clearly I'm not giving individual medical advice

I assume your DH isn't a doctor and just thinks that his opinion is enough to heal his baby son Hmm

Please take your son to his hospital appointment.

Thanks for all the replies. I was planning on taking him, and will now definitely be taking him. Just DH was making me have doubts.

There's no reason not to take him except I was worried I might be wasting the hospitals time.

Yes, what is your DH's specific reason NOT wanting you to take DS?

Ellieboolou27 · 06/12/2016 22:11

Good job op Smile
You won't be wasting hospitals time, they've given you the appointment for a reason.
Hope all goes well

Attending an appointment that was arranged after a. a GP assessed your DS, b. dictated a letter, c. somebody typed it, d. somebody booked DS's appointment, e. sent an appointment letter to you is NOT wasting anybody's time.

Go!

Take him

They don't send appointments for consultant clinics unless you really need one.

jayisforjessica · 06/12/2016 22:27

It's okay today, you think. But it could be bad again next week, and how long will it take to get another appointment? Your child's health is the point here. Take him.

JosephineMaynard · 06/12/2016 22:28

I'd take him. Get the doctors to look and say whether they think it sorting itself out or not.

It's not wasting the hospitals time.
