To give up on freecycle

Secretspillernamechange · 04/12/2016 13:28

We've just replaced our fridge with a bigger one and put the old one on freecycle (which is how we acquired it).

Over the weekend I've had my time wasted again and again, people email to say they want it then after several messages, agreeing collection times and giving them my address they don't turn up or stop replying. It's so rude Angry.

My local recycling centre is still open for a couple of hours, WIBU to just take it?

I would just take it to the recycling centre.

I love freecycle, in theory. But it's a lot of effort for nothing IMO.

Put it on your driveway with £10 sign attached. Odds are it'll be stolen within the hour...

I stopped using the site for the same reason. Just not worth the aggro.

YY to that.

I'm kinda the same. You get people sending kind of freecycle begging letters as well "My daughter's just had her leg chopped off and would really be deserving of this item" - then cue I'm coming today no I've changed my mind, actually I only want one of the two sofas even though the ad says you've got to take both.... really really annoying.

On the other hand I've had some lovely people as well but there is a lot of annoyance.

I read on here I think
Always put it up for money even if you don't want anything for it...It will get rid of some of the time wasters (Not all unfortunately.)
Then just explain you don't want anything for it when the buyer turns up!
It's worked for me!

Had that problem. Advertised the free bed i had been offering for 3 weeks on local fb page and freecycle on my local fb site for £10. Gone within an hour and huge list of people after it after no comments and two failed turn ups.. explain that!

Agree with MrsGlam - put stuff on gumtree for £30 or something.

I gave up on freecycke - got so messed about. And people just lie so much! And want you to deliver. "I iz a disabled singal mom and my baby girl really needz the TV you have, you need to deliver it to me at . I only want it if iz pink tho."
