To think Cadbury hot chocolate and Freddo hot chocolate are the same thing!?

Just been to Tesco and found they do Cadbury hot chocolate and Cadbury Freddo Hot chocolate. Surely this is the same thing? So why is the Freddo one more expensive?

Seems like they're marketing the same product to children and hoiking up the price, of the exact same product.

I consider myself a hot chocolate expert drinker and would love to know if it's the same stuff. I partially considered holding both the freddo one and normal cadbury one and comparing ingredients, but I thought I need to let go and move on, as the freddo one is just ridiculously small too!

Yes they are and yes they are Mondelez have utterly buggered Cadbury as a brand and I think it's an attempt to screw more money out of people, and hope they don't notice.

Okay I'm glad I'm not the only one who got the rage by this I told DP and he said I have too much time on my hands if I'm worrying about that!

I bought the Freddo one as it was on offer. I didn't check ingredients but the nutritional info was exactly the same as the normal drinking choc. I checked to make sure it didn't have more sugar in it as it was plainly marketed at children.

I spotted that too, I think one is madewith milk and the other with hot water but can't see how that justifies the price difference.

The Freddo one can be made with cold milk into a milkshake, but unsure how the regular Cadbury hot chocolate (the one you make with milk not water) mixes with cold water. Some just don't mix in well with cold milk.

heygotanygrapes Only the instant Cadbury hot chocolate can be made with water (it contains powdered milk). I think the only difference between the Freddo and the Cadbury hot chocolate is that the Freddo one can be made with cold milk.

Why couldn't the non-Freddo one be made with cold milk? Just because they don't mention it can?

Just checked the Cadbury's website. The ingredients are the same though very generic (ie flavouring) and no quantities but the typical nutritional values are actually slightly different.

Surely a Freddo hot chocolate is a normal hot chocolate with a Freddo on the side for dipping

The mixing question will be to do with how the powders are processed and the physical size of the particles. On the face of it the ingredients are the same but there will be differences in the processing that impact on solubility. And the generic 'flavouring' will cover a whole host of potential differences. But essentially it's all a marketing ploy. We make up the ordinary non instant Cadbury's hot chocolate (Sugar, cocoa powder, salt) with hot water anyway and just add a splash of milk!
