WIBU to only get my son 1 Christmas present?

My son wants an expensive present so I have got it for him, but now I'm seriously worried at the idea he will only have 1 gift to open, his brother will have about 15. It's not mean is it?

If it's the difference between say, an Xbox and 15 toys then no.

If it's a book against 15 pound shop bits then no.

If he'll object then he needs to learn some humility.

ILoveAGoodBrusselSprout · 03/12/2016 21:15

Oh I feel for you, and I agree that you should stick to your budget, but I'd feel awful doing that.

Can you add some cheapies, just to give him something else to open? Selection box? PJs (not particularly cheap, but you might be buying some soon anyway)? Arts and craft things? A book?

aibuornah · 03/12/2016 21:18

He'll get PJs on Christmas Eve

dontcrynow · 03/12/2016 21:18

One present while his db has 15 is just awful. sorry

QuiteLikely5 · 03/12/2016 21:19

I'd go to the pound shop and spend a tenner on him if all you are trying to do is rigidly stick to a budget........if you genuinely don't have the cash then that's a different matter all together more a case of can't not won't

aibuornah · 03/12/2016 21:19

Yes, but the 15 are so much cheaper

Trifleorbust · 03/12/2016 21:21

How old are they? If he's not old enough to understand cost then it's going to look Confused

Heirhelp · 03/12/2016 21:21

How old is your son? I am guessing teenage. Can you get him some stocking filler to go with it? A box of cereal that you would not normally get him and some deodorant.

aibuornah · 03/12/2016 21:22

Oh, he is plenty old enough to understand cost - he is 12! I'm the one who feels bad, as it's the first time he won't have multiple presents. Younger brother is 7...

OP posts:
squoosh · 03/12/2016 21:23

How old is he? If he's old enough for an expensive gift he must understand that he can't have quality and quantity.

Give him a selection box as well. Job done!

SerialReJoiner · 03/12/2016 21:23

I wouldn't be able to stop myself from padding it out a bit with cheap things.

Trifleorbust · 03/12/2016 21:23

Hmm, but 12 is still young enough to 'understand' something without really 'getting' it, if you see what I mean. Maybe buy him one or two smaller gifts but only if you can afford to.

squoosh · 03/12/2016 21:24

x post!

Soubriquet · 03/12/2016 21:24

I think it's fair enough

What is the big present that he wanted?

sooperdooper · 03/12/2016 21:24

I'd buy a few cheaply things to go with the big expensive one, just sweets, books, stocking filler type things

strongswans · 03/12/2016 21:25

I would have to get a few cheaper bits, wilkinsons, tiger, eBay. My Ds has had a big present for birthday and Christmas this year but still has little bits to open.

aibuornah · 03/12/2016 21:26

It's the Xbox One S Fifa 17 Console

Yeah, I think I'll add an extra £20 worth of things to their gifts.

OP posts:
littlesallyracket · 03/12/2016 21:27

If he's 12 I think he will understand that his one present is of an equivalent value to his brother's smaller presents.

Will he have presents from other people to open as well? Grandparents etc?

spicyfajitas · 03/12/2016 21:27

Why don't you want to give them a few more things to open?

Trifleorbust · 03/12/2016 21:28

I think your 7 year old will want a go of that X box! Grin

Soubriquet · 03/12/2016 21:28

The I think with that a couple of cheapy little things, it's a fair trade.

An X box is a lot of money

aibuornah · 03/12/2016 21:28

Because I'm not made of money? I thought getting him what he wanted would be best Confused I wasn't doing it to be horrible! Actually, the complete opposite!

OP posts:
aibuornah · 03/12/2016 21:29

Yes, both sets of grandparents, aunties and uncles too Smile

OP posts:
Patriciathestripper1 · 03/12/2016 21:30

Ooooo Confused I'd still get him some silly gifts to open so it's a bit more balanced....

SerialReJoiner · 03/12/2016 21:30

You could make a joke of it, and wrap each component separately, like the controller's, cables, instruction manual, etc.
