WIBU to only get my son 1 Christmas present?

My son wants an expensive present so I have got it for him, but now I'm seriously worried at the idea he will only have 1 gift to open, his brother will have about 15. It's not mean is it?

i was aiming my post at those who said 1 present versus 15 was unfair and cruel. sorry.

Notso · 05/12/2016 15:43

Why is it ridiculous? My younger son wants stuff too... It would be unfair to say he can't have what is on his list, when it comes to less than what his brother wants.

So you haven't spent the exactly same on them?

PrincessConsuelaTheSecond · 05/12/2016 15:44

Meh, one present v 15 really wouldn't sit well with me.

My kids get a main present and a few smaller bits. I don't spend the same amount on them but they do have a similar number of gifts.

I'd seriously pad it out with chocolates, socks, school stationary, pjs, etc. An Xbox is great but he's 12 and will be disappointed only to get one present.

aibuornah · 05/12/2016 15:45

I have? I got what was on his list, plus another lego set. Why? Hmm

I am neither sensitive nor over-invested. In fact I couldn't give a stuff about your question. I'm slightly wondering why you asked though ... but only very slightly.

squoosh · 05/12/2016 15:52

I seriously doubt a 12 year old is going to be miffed that his much younger 7 year old brother has more stuff to unwrap. He's getting the xbox he's getting a stocking. That's plenty.

cottencandy55 · 05/12/2016 15:55

Everyone is different my ds 9 main present is the Xbox same one you have got he's got that and about 20 other presents I couldn't just give him 1,thing to open while the other has 15 even though they are cheaper.

monkeywithacowface · 05/12/2016 15:55

Mine are the same age and ds1 is also getting Xbox One and Fifa. Its all he's getting from us but he will have gifts from grandparents to open on the day. DS2 will have more to open but will have actually have had less money spent on him. Xbox is a way over our normal xmas budget, DS1 knows that and appreciates the fact that will be his only present from us. I've already told him his brother will have more to open on the day he said he doesn't care he just desperately wants an Xbox. I will probably wrap up some of his favourite sweets and a new pair of PJ's.

I remember my own mum panicking one Christmas Eve because my 15 year old brothers pile was so much smaller but she'd bought him some very expensive art supplies.

17caterpillars1mouse · 05/12/2016 15:56

I'd at least get a selection box and some Christmas shops just so he has a few more bits to open otherwise he'll just be watching his little brother opening presents for ages after her finished

imnervous · 05/12/2016 15:57

I have the same age difference ( except mine are just 8 and just 13). Ds1 understands that his presents tend to be more expensive than DS2's toys, it doesn't bother him in the slightest! It bothers me a bit though so I tend to try and find cheap bits and pieces that I can also add to the pile, even if it's just wrapped up socks etc!

Notso · 05/12/2016 15:57

That's what I find ridiculous. You can buy everything on the list for less than the Xbox. Everything he wants^ but you get more to even it up. I know you are not alone but I think it's just spending for the sake of it.

cricketballs · 05/12/2016 17:06

I second a PP that suggested wrapping up the components separately (also a big yes to downloading FIFA before!)

But at his age, he will know how much has been spent and should understand

IHaveAToiletBrush · 05/12/2016 19:29

Why would you need to download Fifa before. Dh has this game on xbox 1 to play with ds it took 7 minutes to download and about the same to install. We do have fibre broadband though with 120mb download speed so I guess that makes a difference.

atticusclaw2 · 05/12/2016 19:47

downloading beforehand is a good idea for Christmas day.

aibuornah · 05/12/2016 19:48

I think DS will want to open the box

DailyCRAPMail · 05/12/2016 19:55

I agree, opening the box is the best bit. 📦

Well, bully for you! Although I think your stealth skills could be stealthier... Hmm

shadey171 · 05/12/2016 20:25

I had this issue but couldn't afford to buy random other gifts so I unpacked it ps4 and left console in box and then separately wrapped cables game and controler then made sure he opened cables and controller first then he was so exited by time he opened big box with console in it. It turned 1 present into like 7 little ones and one big. X
Xmas Wink
