To have pretended we had won money?

I scratched off a scratch card and pretended that I had won £100, just joking and obviously joking. DH took it to heart it wasn't that awful was it?

If you need the money, it was awful. Otherwise, no.

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 02/12/2016 17:57

Depends if you needed the money.

TheFlounder · 02/12/2016 17:57

It depends on your financial situation. If £100 would make a big difference then it was a bit cruel. If it's not much money to your family then it's a lighthearted joke IMO.

monkeywithacowface · 02/12/2016 17:59

That's a crap joke.

ZoFloMoFo · 02/12/2016 18:00

I always thought a joke had a punchline, or was meant to make people laugh?

I'm missing which bit is funny about thinking you've won £100 then being told you haven't.

DiegeticMuch · 02/12/2016 18:02

If £100 is chump change to you, then no problem. Otherwise, it's pretty cruel.

Guavaf1sh · 02/12/2016 18:02

Not funny at all regardless of the need for the money or not

Uiscebeatha85 · 02/12/2016 18:04

Yeah not funny at all, YABU

FlyingElbows · 02/12/2016 18:05

I really don't have time for "jokes" which are really just designed to humiliate someone so I think yabu. Each to their own though.

wobblywonderwoman · 02/12/2016 18:07

I see it as funny .. but I am a cynic and I wouldn't have believed it.

But I imagine your dh might be hurt if you are stuck for money at the moment. Give him a hug.. it will all blow over.

tigermoll · 02/12/2016 18:09

It's a pretty feeble joke.

If you simply must do the kind of 'haha got you' joke to someone, then the point is that, in retrospect, the fooled person will realise that they were being naive to fall for it. So you have to pick something that contains within it the clue that it is ridiculous/they shouldn't fall for it. The classic 'did you know they've taken gullible out of the dictionary?' is an example of this.

Telling someone you won a hundred quid on a scratchcard and then revealing that you didn't isn't really that funny. It just doesn't work as a joke.

Bloodybloodyheckers · 02/12/2016 18:10

No not funny

Soubriquet · 02/12/2016 18:13

No it isn't funny

My Dh used to joke he had been sacked from work if he came home early. Would only tell me after i panicked

It got to the point where I don't believe what he says about things now and it means he's more honest.

Vanillamanilla1 · 02/12/2016 18:14

I'm in the ' it's not funny' camp also

Loyly · 02/12/2016 18:15

That isn't funny Confused

SlottedSpoon · 02/12/2016 18:16

I think if a hundred quid would solve a problem in your DHs life and things are very tough right now then it was a pretty mean and poorly judged joke and I don't blame him for being pissed off.

ArmySal · 02/12/2016 18:16

I hate practical 'jokes'.

tigermoll · 02/12/2016 18:17

....I used to work with someone who seemed to think that 'fooling you' with something lame was hilarious. Eg. she would say she was going on holiday. When you asked where, she would reply 'Florida' or something. Then when you politely said 'that sounds nice' she would pull a face and say 'God, not really. Can't believe you fell for it!'

It was pretty wearing.

AnnieOnAMapleLeaf · 02/12/2016 18:17

Feeble joke and equally feeble thread.

Mlb123 · 02/12/2016 18:19

I think jokes like this are cruel. Especially so if the money would really come in handy and the person feels disappointed and also a bit humiliated to have been taken in. I remember my parents not believing my leg was really hurt and saying if you walk properly without limping we have a gorgeous doll for you, but only if you don't limp at all. Well I all excited as didn't get many nice things as a child did my best to walk without a limp though it really hurt. That was when my reward was given to me-laughing at me for believing it and also calling me a liar who was putting on a bad leg. I remember feeling so utterly disappointed and stupid and also hurt as they just continued to refuse to believe my leg was painful as they had the proof as I ignored the agony to walk properly as I wanted the lovely doll I had been promised was the doll I had loved for ages and had been begging for for the last two years. Sorry, didn't mean to go on and I know your dp is an adult and you no doubt meant no harm.

acornsandnuts · 02/12/2016 18:19

Just before moving into our first home and unbelievably skint my MIL gave us a scratch card, we won £10000. After a few minutes of utter excitement, and relief, she told us it was s joke one.

Deep down I've never forgave her. Wasn't funny on any level.

PaperTrail · 02/12/2016 18:20

Okay... Fair enough

OP posts:
Ilovetorrentialrain · 02/12/2016 18:20

In what way do you think this is funny? Then again a good joke shouldn't need explaining...

TwentyCups · 02/12/2016 18:22

Acorn I honestly think that's a deeply hurtful thing to do to a couple struggling for money. How cruel of her.

MidsummersNight · 02/12/2016 18:22

I think that's the cruelest joke/prank anyone can play (unless you're loaded).

If DP told me we'd won £100 and was "joking" I'd be furious and extremely upset.

£100 would be a lot to us.
