To have pretended we had won money?

I scratched off a scratch card and pretended that I had won £100, just joking and obviously joking. DH took it to heart it wasn't that awful was it?

OP posts:
JellyBelli · 02/12/2016 18:22

Whats funny about it?

Topseyt · 02/12/2016 18:23

How on earth was it obvious you were joking?

Not funny, especially if money is tight.

Why post a thread about it, showing how daft and unfunny it was.

PoldarksBreeches · 02/12/2016 18:23

I fucking hate jokes like this. Laughing at someone's disappointment isn't nice.

MidsummersNight · 02/12/2016 18:23

Acorn that's horrible.

I'd struggle speaking to my mum ever again if she did that to me.

Lorelei76 · 02/12/2016 18:25

Not funny unless you are super rich and it's like a valet tip for you.

Lorelei76 · 02/12/2016 18:26

Actually now I'm thinking what I'd buy with it
Even worse if he was thinking how handy for bills,..poor guy.

sycamore54321 · 02/12/2016 18:30

I too hate practical jokes and any kind of candid camera things etc. They are cruel and serve only to mock what is usually are nice and kind reactions to a slightly unusual situation. I always wonder what the pranked person would do next time, eg if after being 'pranked' by an actor playing an increasingly oddly behaved customer in their workplace, then that experience is going to colour their reaction and all them to behave with cynicism and suspicion next time someone who is ever so slightly different comes in. Which just means people with difficulties in social situations or hidden disabilities etc have it all the harder.

Why shouldn't your husband believe you when you tell him some lovely news? It was a loving and supportive thing for him to do. Next time you tell him you have gotten a promotion at work, or that worrying lump on your skin has come back as entirely benign, or just that your favourite far-flung friend is coming to visit, do you want him to be suspicious, indifferent, disbelieving? Or do you want him to be happy for you and share your good news?

Your joke was particularly cruel off one hundred pounds would make a real difference to your family at this expensive time of year. Please apologise to him, tell him you didn't think it through and try to re-establish a little bit of innocence/naivety/taking things at face value in your life. I would be willing to bet you will feel happier all round.

thisisafakename · 02/12/2016 18:32

OP, do you work or is he the main earner? If you are not jointly responsible for the finances, then that's a doubly twattish thing to do. For all you know, he might be struggling with debts and bills and you think it's funny pretending that you have won money. Even if you do bring money in, it's a twattish thing to do. I would expect this from someone approximately 16 or so. Maybe younger.

Fieryfighter · 02/12/2016 18:45

Absolute dick move and not remotely funny.

Acorn that's so so awful

Miserylovescompany2 · 02/12/2016 18:48

...another in the not funny camp :(

Costacoffeeplease · 02/12/2016 18:48

I'd be fuming, and we're not strapped for cash, it's just a piss-take

Rollonbedtime7pm · 02/12/2016 18:49

Wow OP maybe you should have added lighthearted to the title!

OK so not ROFL level of joke but jeez, people on here need to lighten up!

I'm sure OP wouldn't have done it if there were genuine money issues! Hmm

YANBU - it's the kind of stupid stuff me and DH also say to each other, no "humiliation" involved!

Floggingmolly · 02/12/2016 18:50

I don't think "not particularly needing the money" would make this any funnier Confused. Render it even more pointless, perhaps...
Did you shriek with laughter when you did the big reveal, op? What part of that ridiculous exchange seemed amusing??

Mean and not funny, but Acorns MIL takes the prize for downright nastiness.

Grilledaubergines · 02/12/2016 18:53

Not funny if you've made the other party look a tit. I'd be quite upset.

Pemba · 02/12/2016 18:53

Not funny

Notso · 02/12/2016 18:55

My uncle knobhead once did this to my parents but with the lottery. He recorded the previous weeks draw and bought a ticket for my parents with those numbers.
My Dad had been made redundant and had been out of work for six months. Money was really tight for us, it was a shitty thing to do.

throwingpebbles · 02/12/2016 18:58

notso that was a vile thing of him to do!!

Op- not really a funny joke, either a bit dull (if money no object) or very mean (if you are on the breadline)

burgundyandgoldleaves · 02/12/2016 19:03

It's a "joke" where the punchline is the other persons response. So it isn't funny.

buttercup54321 · 02/12/2016 19:07

Not funny at all.

FlappysMammyAndPopeInExile · 02/12/2016 19:08

Acorn

How is she not in a shallow unmarked grave in the back garden?

ProseccoBitch · 02/12/2016 19:10

I don't understand how anyone could possibly think that was funny.

PippaFawcett · 02/12/2016 19:15

Notso, I think that is one of the cruellest tricks I have ever heard about.
