To think 335,000 extra people coming to the UK in a year is too high

Where will they all live? What jobs will they all do? I know it may help GDP, but that is irrelevant as GDP per head is the important thing.

It does seem to be race to the bottom with more part time work , uber type work and the country is borrowing more and more and the national debt is 35k per head now.

Benefits in this country cannot be cut, as evidenced in the media.
People are used to the money, any attempt is decried in the popular press. It is political suicide.
Taxation is easier, the boiling frog syndrome, if you like.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 02/12/2016 18:01

I don't know User, I'm not sure I want to pay more tax.

Why don't we follow Germany's example and cut some benefits ewcomers for the first five years and invest that?

Valentine2 · 02/12/2016 18:07

If you do not back your claim with proper data I need a new comment, I would much rather you kindly keep your "feelings" t yourself.

I don't think increasing taxes will be of any benefit unless you tell us where all the money is going or gone that we have already paid in taxes. I don't want to bleed indefinitely in the hope I will survive right before I go into coma.
sykes
Exactly!! Your point about the younger generation is spot on. But before we cut it from well off baby boomers, we really need to know where in the world all the money is going. I dont trust May and her cronies. Not for anything in the world.
i say we find where the fuck is all the money going before we make any move to get more money from any part of this population under any circumstances.

Temporaryname137 · 02/12/2016 18:08

I hope user is joking now. People are used to the money they get paid. Suddenly make them start paying another 20% in tax - and they'll notice it!!

user1471439240 · 02/12/2016 18:09

That idea was touted, disallowed by Europe re any meaningful benefits hence Brexit.
Any curbs must apply to indigenous populace also.

Valentine2 · 02/12/2016 18:10

And I am in that group of the younger generation who were unfortunate enough to be born after the baby boomer generation and would really resent it if I was taxed more as it's already too bad for us comparatively. I won't feel any particular love for my country if I see no future for my children here. Why should I? DCs are my responsibility, not the Union Jack or the Queen for that matter.

Valentine2 · 02/12/2016 18:11

No increase in taxes or cuts on anything UNLESS someone comes along to tell me where the fuck is all the money going and why can't we change that.

Temporaryname137 · 02/12/2016 18:13

It's never as simple as "pay more tax".

user1471439240 · 02/12/2016 18:15

It can only be changed by having a contributory benefit system. Pay in to get out. See Germany for eg, we are against the norm in Europe having a non contributory system.
Having one of the highest minimum wages makes it factors worse.

dontcrynow · 02/12/2016 18:15

Billsykes what are these benefits that you think older people dont need?

Valentine2 · 02/12/2016 18:16

And to everyone saying UK has just so much land: if something has to give, I would much rather have free movement than a tanked economy. I would much rather my kids get the best possible start and have chances to move anywhere in the world in their adult lives because of a great skill set. A tanked economy means the middle class will be pushed further into the poor class (I am in the middle now I think) and that means I won't be able to give my kids what they need to survive the even harsher world in the next few decades. I really fear for them.

Valentine2 · 02/12/2016 18:18

The last ten years have been hell for the people born in and after 1980s. Why in the world should we face more hell?

SouthallGirl · 02/12/2016 18:25

We should cut off benefits for elderly people who don't need it

What benefits do you think the old get "who dont need it"? Bus pass, and TV licence if you are over 75. A one-off £200 winter fuel allowane once a year. What else?

Valentine2 · 02/12/2016 18:25

Keeping the German system in mind, i think free movement of people has become a scapegoat for the corruptions of successive governments of this country. It's keeps everyone distracted and makes a good visual excuse for the massive destruction of the infrastructure and the austerity measures while concentrating money towards the top.

user1471439240 · 02/12/2016 18:25

A maasive debt burden, which if not diluted by even none productive heads means lower Gdp per capita and cheaper debt repayments.
More heads spreads the apparent debt.
Better debt ratings means cheaper money.

Valentine2 · 02/12/2016 18:28

So no cuts from anyone and no taxes on anyone.in fact no fucking change until we know what is actually going on.for heaven sake, even while budgeting your kitchen, don't you FIRST find where all the money is going so you've could plan it next time?
Whoever is afraid of doing this has something to hide and I have no o faith in that.

Valentine2 · 02/12/2016 18:30

Sorry user. I don't understand the language of economics at all. So sorry but i hope you could explain that a bit please?

SouthallGirl · 02/12/2016 18:31

it's nothing to do with jobs. Freedom of movement is contributing to the overpopulation crisis in this country

^This with bells on. We are also having to accommodate more births than ever before, because it is the young who come to our country to work and will at some stage produce children.

dontcrynow · 02/12/2016 18:34

Southallgi are you saying no pensioners need these benefits?

SouthallGirl · 02/12/2016 18:44

Southallgi are you saying no pensioners need these benefits?

No, I am saying we do need them, but from what BillSykes was saying they should be taken away "We should cut off benefits for elderly people who don't need it".

I was asking what benefits?

SouthallGirl · 02/12/2016 18:46

In fact, dontcrynow, I believe that pensioners should be exempt from paying Council Tax completely, as well as Water charges.

buckingfrolicks · 02/12/2016 19:11

Pensioners are better off than they were 8 years ago, in real terms. The poor and the middles are worse off.

MissMargie · 02/12/2016 19:25

The last ten years have been hell for the people born in and after 1980s. Why in the world should we face more hell

That's my DCs.

They've had a ball compared to my life. Interesting degrees, Masters, year out before uni, year out after uni. Nice homes thanks to bank of Mum and Dad. Regular hols, skiing, travel.
Shit - I had a crap life compared to that.
I'll admit they are working harder now, demanding jobs due to staff cuts etc . But their jobs are much more interesting than mine ever was.

Sobachka · 02/12/2016 20:11

lack of Free Movement wouldn't threaten my job

Sorry Valentina, my comment was in response to Wasonthelist.

EU citizens entering the UK with pre-arranged work are in the minority - statistics up-thread. That fact is immaterial to the overpopulation crisis. Everyone who comes here, job or not, needs a home but there are no homes.
