To think that this was ill advised of Melania Trump?

www.yahoo.com/beauty/melania-trump-hired-a-lawyer-over-false-claims-that-her-son-has-autism-153606916.html

A better response is surely, actually, he doesn't have autism but even if he did, so what? Suing someone suggests that there is something wrong with having a child on the autistic spectrum? It would be quite within their rights to ask for a video to be removed but this is the wrong way to go about it, in my opinion.

The video, posted in early November by a man who tells TMZ that he wanted to stop people bullying Barron over his “weird behavior,” lists several “signs” that Donald Trump’s son is autistic. Among them: claims that Barron doesn’t clap properly, makes “strange movements in his seat,” and displays “antisocial behavior.”

Charles J. Harder, a lawyer for the Trumps, sent a legal letter demanding that the user who made the video delete it and issue an apology. The letter also states that Barron is not autistic

Sorry but if some jumped up little twat decided they had the right to 'diagnose' my kids with any condition, due to the fact they thought they were 'weird', I'd sue their arse too (if I had the money) and demand the video be taken down.

Whether the child is or isn't autistic is no-one's business.

Besides, the child is old enough to know his own mind, so for all we know he could have asked his Mum to try to get it removed.

I don't think it's up to anyone here to decide what a 'better response' would be.

MollyRedskirts · 01/12/2016 10:35

I have a DS diagnosed with autism and it's highly likely I also have it. I don't see anything wrong with what she did - legal action is a deterrent, so I can see why they did it. It'll hopefully stop others from making up stories.

DearMrDilkington · 01/12/2016 10:35

I agree with Worra. I will never understand why people feel the need to make comments like this about children with famous parents.

This isn't about autism, it's about an innocent child that has their every move watched so someone can make up a ridiculous statment about them.

MorrisZapp · 01/12/2016 10:39

What worra said.

Temporaryname137 · 01/12/2016 10:39

Agree with the above.

She was, however, fucking ill-advised to marry the spoiled dangerous orange cunt in the first place.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 01/12/2016 10:41

Melanie is by no means a role model for me, but I do agree with her.

My child's conditions or health issues, real or not, are not up for speculation.

This however I disagree with. Stating he not autistic does seem to suggest having autism is wrong. They shouldn't have put this in the statement.

DearMrDilkington · 01/12/2016 10:46

smythe I don't think that's what she meant. I think she wanted to stop all rumours about her son so put the record straight by saying he isn't autistic.

BertrandRussell · 01/12/2016 10:48

I am much more concerned about Trump Sr's public involvement with bloody Andrew bloody Wakefield.....

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 01/12/2016 10:50

Maybe not, I still have a bad feeling about it.

WorraLiberty · 01/12/2016 10:52

This however I disagree with. Stating he not autistic does seem to suggest having autism is wrong. They shouldn't have put this in the statement.

Why though? If he's not autistic he's not autistic.

BertrandRussell · 01/12/2016 10:56

I think you should be able to sue a newspaper if it says something untrue about you. It doesn't have to be a negative-just untrue.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 01/12/2016 10:58

True.

Look, I don't like the wording, but I'm not a lawyer.

WorraLiberty · 01/12/2016 11:05

The wording was short and simple and I imagine very necessary to stop people like this 'Rosie O'Donnell' in their tracks, after believing the online armchair diagnosis...

Rosie O’Donnell also brought attention to the video, tweeting it out last week with the message “Barron Trump Autistic? If so—what an amazing opportunity to bring attention to the AUTISM epidemic.”

Stating he not autistic does seem to suggest having autism is wrong.

How so? If I stated that I don't have a million pounds in the bank then I wouldn't be suggesting that having it would be wrong, I'd just be stating fact.

I don't see how stating that a non-autistic person isn't autistic can be construed as offensive.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 01/12/2016 11:12

Saying he does have something or not just plays to those who are spreading rumours. It doesn't matter if he has it or not, they shouldn't be discussing a child's health.

PhilODox · 01/12/2016 11:14

Wow- the child is 10! He shouldn't have to sit still (for hours, at boring political rallies!), or clap if he doesn't want to. He should be off limits for all commentators.

user1477282676 · 01/12/2016 11:14

God this poor boy.

:(

I don't care WHO his Father is. You should not give this story more publicity by sharing it here. I'd not even heard about this. Weirdos on social media zooming in on him as if the press won't do enough damage.

His Father is who he is and that affects him enormously. It's awful.

GinAndTunic · 01/12/2016 11:26

Good for Melania. Leave the little boy out of your hatred.

Bobsmum02 · 01/12/2016 12:13

Good for her I say! YANBU to say that there is 'nothing wrong' with having a child with autism. That doesn't mean she needs to stand for someone publicly and perhaps incorrectly diagnosing her son as such! Regardless of who his father is, children should be left out of politics!

Bobsmum02 · 01/12/2016 12:16

Mumsnet is a strange place sometimes...we can't spend any money on fun gifts at Christmas as this money could be given to charity and we should accept our children being diagnosed by untrained media outlets as there is 'nothing wrong' with having which ever condition they are talking about!!

GreatFuckability · 01/12/2016 12:21

The guy who made the video has ASD himself, he thought he was Helping Barron. Also Rosie ODonnel has a child with ASD so thought it was a great message if it was true. I do feel like they have the right to say its not true, but the wording also sounded like they were offended by the idea of him having ASD which is weird to me.

WorraLiberty · 01/12/2016 12:39

I think the wording sounds like they're offended by keyboard/armchair doctors, spreading untruths about their son.

It doesn't mean they're offended by the idea of him having any kind of condition.

JustToRead · 01/12/2016 12:50

I have autism I don't see the problem with what she's done, it doesn't raise awareness saying a non autistic boy has autism. And even if he did that's not for the newspapers to splash about. Also very Hmm about Rosie O'Donnell "autism epidemic" tweet, epidemic ? HmmConfused
