Baby fell off the bed - should I be worried?

So.... I go off to work this morning and leave my husband in our bed with the baby (I do her morning feed in bed with us before I go off to work). He sheepishly admits this evening that he 'might have fallen asleep' and was awoken to the sound of her hitting the floor!

The mattress is probably between 1 and 2 feet from the floor, and she fell onto carpet. He said she cried for 30 seconds and then was fine. Has been fine all day

There are no marks on her and I will keep an eye on her, of course

Just want to know that this has happened to other people and hear some reassuring stories that she will be fine!! Feel terrible even though I wasn't there. Gone out today and bought a bed guard - didn't realise she was as mobile as this, she wasn't even near the edge of the bed!

My dd fell off the bed when she was a few months old. We both got a scare and cried but she was fine. If she has been ok all day I wouldn't worry

All babies fall off the bed, or couch, or changing unit, or something . ALL of them.

She's fine.

FaFoutis · 30/11/2016 18:15

All my babies fell off the bed at least once. Yours sounds fine.

humblesims · 30/11/2016 18:17

Its true they all do it. Mine did it right in front of my eyes, in slow motion.

Colby43443 · 30/11/2016 18:17

If she isn't crying or refusing food/not pooing then she's fine. Strongly suggest you don't keep her on the bed without guards tho.

Trifleorbust · 30/11/2016 18:18

How old is she? I don't think you have anything to worry about with an 18 inch (?) drop and no marks, changes to her behaviour etc.

CwtchMeQuick · 30/11/2016 18:19

Mine did it in slow motion too, he'd never moved an inch until I left him on the bed for 2 seconds and then suddenly developed the ability to nose dive. Landed on a wooden floor on his head Blush

She sounds absolutely fine so don't worry, it happens to all of them at least once.

cansu · 30/11/2016 18:19

Mine fell off sofa. He was fine although I was like you v worried. I remember ringing nhs direct and the doctor telling me he was fine.

downwardfacingdog · 30/11/2016 18:20

Yep all my babies fell off the bed. They were all fine.

TheDisreputableDog · 30/11/2016 18:25

Yep, they all do it. Treat it like you would a bump on your head. If she vomits/loses consciousness/isn't reactive/not usual self then seek treatment. Trust your instincts.

Happymumof3tobe · 30/11/2016 18:27

Both mine have done it and I'm sure the next will also. It happens. As long as they are acting normally don't worry. But maybe get a moses basket next to the bed (if you haven't already) and leave her in there just in case your husband falls asleep again. Incase he rolls on her instead. ..

squishysquirmy · 30/11/2016 18:27

Mine fell of the bed AND the sofa. Double fail. If you are worried though, the NHS helpline can be good.

SpiritedLondon · 30/11/2016 18:31

Mine fell off the bed and I was working in child protection at the time!

Both mine did it too. I'm pretty sure babies are secretly programmed to fall off stuff.

Cellardoor23 · 30/11/2016 18:33

My DS fell off the sofa when he was about 4 months old. He did cry, but I think it gave him a fright more than anything, it frightened me!

Luckily I was going to doctors that day, explained what happened and asked her to give him a quick check over.

The nurse said as long as he didn't vomit afterwards and wasn't unusually drowsy (as well as any obvious bumps) then he should be ok. Just to keep an eye on him. He was fine.

He's tougher than he looks!

TheABC · 30/11/2016 18:42

Its a parental rite of passage. My firstborn freewheeled off the bed, so I put up rails to prevent second born from doing so. She divebombed off the sofa yesterday instead.

Both kids survived!

TooGood2BeFalse · 30/11/2016 19:00

When my first little boy was about 4 months old, he somehow managed to kick/push/heave himself out of his buggy on to a tiled floor...I swear I am not exaggerating and to this day have NO idea how he managed it. It was bizarre, but true.I was 4 feet away and looking the other way..he was and is fine!! Promise!

JellyBelli · 30/11/2016 19:02

Ex DP sat on DS.

mum2Bomg · 30/11/2016 19:24

My nephew bounced off the bed when I was looking after him...onto a wooden floor. It was horrific but he was fine X

swizzlestar · 30/11/2016 19:28

I have four dc, and each one of them has fallen off the bed or sofa. All fine!

I think it's a bit of a rite of passage.

BitchQueen90 · 30/11/2016 19:30

Yep, my DS fell off the bed. Turned round for one second to get a clean nappy off the shelf and off he went, thump.

He's 3.5 now and clearly hasn't been negatively affected in any way 😉

SpornStar · 30/11/2016 19:40

Welcome to the club. You are now a proper parent Wink

minionsrule · 30/11/2016 20:04

My ds did the same, he was on the bed, safe as he couldn't roll over yet (so I thought), I looked up to see him do the last roll and fall off the side. It was worse as there was a bedside cabinet there and he caught his head on the edge and he ended up with a cut head Sad. Its one of those cuts that wasn't big but seemed to bleed forever - he was fine by the way

willstarttomorrow · 30/11/2016 20:05

Happens to us all. This is your warning that you cannot leave them in one place to get stuff done and expect them to stay there anymore!
