It's not just the vegans that are fucked off....

LadyPenelopeShufflebottom · 01/12/2016 09:46

HonniBee you win the internet today Grin

FourKidsNotCrazyYet · 01/12/2016 12:04

I've just seen this. Puts things into perspective somewhat.

Sorry. I didn't read previous post Blush

LaContessaDiPlump · 01/12/2016 12:47

I think it's not about the amount of animal product that is in the note, but the fact that it is there at all (intentionally, not just as a result of accidental factory cross-contamination, which most vegans reluctantly live with).

Graphista · 01/12/2016 13:10

Half a cow in mass maybe but it won't all have come from one cow and more will need to be made in the future.

I guessed certain religious groups wouldn't be happy about this too. It really hasn't been thought through.

butterfliesandzebras · 01/12/2016 13:33

I can't quite understand why they would do this, why add it.
Very odd.

They're not just randomly adding tallow for kicks, as part of the industrial process for these plastics you NEED a tiny amount of either tallow or plant based alternative.

There is far more tallow produced by the meat industry than needed by industry. So they can either use the cheap and readily available waste product tallow, or that tallow will be wasted and destroyed and a plant based alternative can be made, which doesn't affect the number of animals killed (they were all dead for the meat anyway), but does have an increased environmental cost.

I know which seems the sensible option to me.

GetOutMyCar · 01/12/2016 13:51

I've seen so many angry posts on various internet forums from people who refuse to handle items containing animal products. It makes me chuckle because the devices they're using to tell the world about their boycott also contain animal products.

CaraAspen · 01/12/2016 13:56

None of the Scottish ones do.

Graphista · 01/12/2016 14:00

Good to know so being in Scotland means I'm unlikely to come across an English non veggie one.

Where this night get interesting...vegans and those objecting for religious reasons might try to obtain and use scots notes!

Good luck with that though as so many retailers won't accept scots notes even those near the border.

UsedtobeFeckless · 01/12/2016 18:18

Not goady, just curious ... What do vegan mums do about things like head lice and threadworms?

LaContessaDiPlump · 01/12/2016 18:26

I tend to show no mercy, tbh. Animal rights are all very well and good, but I draw the line at pestilence Grin

LaContessaDiPlump · 01/12/2016 18:27

I do usher flies out of windows and have been known to rescue wasps, though. I'm nice like that!

TwentyCups · 01/12/2016 18:28

Get rid - headline can cause terrible open sores if left forever. We don't want to exploit animals for the benefit of humans, that is different to de-lousing ourselves to avoid pain and discomfort!

GettingitwrongHauntingatnight · 01/12/2016 18:33

Send them all to PO BOX Haunting

FizzBombBathTime · 01/12/2016 18:34

Ummm.. Refrain from feeding their kids head lice and threadworms maybe?

Confused
TalkinPeace · 01/12/2016 18:36

Tallow has been used in paper presses for years and years

all of the old notes had traces of it in
but people could not tell

WLF46 · 01/12/2016 18:41

All banknotes contain animal matter unless they are freshly off the press. Think of all the people that have handled the note you're holding, all the germs and bacteria it plays host to!

Nobody is obliged to use a £5 note or accept one as change or for a transaction.

UsedtobeFeckless · 01/12/2016 23:30

No need for the weird face, Fizz it was a civil question.

Bejazzled · 01/12/2016 23:39

It's on the BBC website that Scottish banknotes also contain animal products.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 01/12/2016 23:46

If this is a major problem in peoples lives then WOW!!!! Hmm

I'm lucky to have a spare fiver, FWP so zero fucks given

llangennith · 01/12/2016 23:53

I couldn't give a toss.

misshelena · 02/12/2016 00:11

I know veggies of all kind. One is veggie except on Thanksgiving. Another refuses to take some meds prescribed for his skin condition because obviously they were tested on animals. One is veggie except for chicken. One is veggie except for fish. And they all call themselves "veggies"! Idk...

TheMortificadosDragon · 02/12/2016 00:42

The link upthread which said 'none of the Scottish ones do' (contain tallow) actually says they also contain traces.
As with the English ones, its a trace acquired during the manufacturing process. The notes are made from polypropylene, which is made from mineral oil. Its used for many purposes and chances are they too may have traces of tallow.

FizzBombBathTime · 02/12/2016 06:52
