AIBU or is this actually now an acceptable thing to do?

I've just gone back in to an office based role, there's a contact centre and i work the other end on a different team.

Many of the women come in, then spend the day walking about with no shoes on..

It seems very unprofessional and a bit grim Envy

You're uptight. Haven't you got better things to get upset at?
I happen to think wearing shoes indoors is a disgusting and dirty English habit. I wear slippers at work if I feel like it and yes I'd walk barefoot too if I wanted to. It's small office and I'm the boss but I'd like to think people should be free to do as they please and what makes them comfortable.
And why does everyone find feet so disgusting? They're clean, you shower every day and wear clean socks! Yet you walk through dog poo, spit and GOD knows what else on the way to work and that's not disgusting? Weird just weird.

I rarely wear shoes indoors, whether at home or work or whatever. I dream of moving to New Zealand where it's considered acceptable to go nearly anywhere barefoot. It's not a comfort thing for me, my shoes fit fine, I just don't like wearing them. I don't see why bare or be-socked feet are a uniquely disgusting body part which have to be kept away when variations in most other areas are fine. Luckily a lot of the people I deal with at work come from countries where wearing shoes in the house is abnormal (often downright unacceptable) so they get on board with my shoelessness ok.

I'm totally bemused that shoes off at work is an issue. I've never thought about it (maybe I should) and issued pad around the office (law firm) shoeless. I do put on shoes to see clients and go to court though.
My mother was/is a podiatrist and was always adamant that the best thing you could do for your feet was to go barefoot as much as possible. It's how I was brought up and I rarely wear shoes, especially indoors, if I can help it!
As for no pooing at work, how do you cope? I would have a bilious stomach if I didn't go when nature called. I've also had several early miscarriages in work toilets. Couldn't exactly help that either.

I would find it a bit odd, if I saw someone taking their shoes off at work, I see that as something you do at home, where you can be casual. But I suppose it's not something I would think all that much about, as long as their feet don't smell, now that is gross!

Natsku · 01/12/2016 21:26

I poo everywhere, no way would I refuse to poo at work. When its time to poo, its time to poo!

Flozle · 02/12/2016 00:42

I walk around barefoot at work, because it's good for feet, posture, blah blah. My feet are washed every morning, along with the rest of me, and I don't see what the issue is. Some people comment, but it's more about the state of the floors than my feet. Wouldn't have a problem with anyone else did it.

TobleroneBoo · 02/12/2016 15:19

Can you tell me if its unreasonable to be flossing your teeth at your desk?

It is, surely? Isnt it?

My colleague just did, and hes really pulling so bits are flicking all over the place Angry

Ledkr · 03/12/2016 09:00

No that's gross

worrierandwine · 04/12/2016 06:19

Flossing and flicking is just a no, never ever acceptable. For all posters banging on about "why is it gross to take my shoes off?" It's not your feet that are gross, it's that you're walking on an "outside" carpet that others have walked on with their shoes on. Basic cross infection rules really - all the grime and germs from people's shoes will be on your socks or feet, if you're happy with this then crack on.

RougeSeas · 05/12/2016 22:26

People don't actually floss in public do they?!!!

I used to work with someone who walked around regularly in a large office with socks on and no shoes . The problem was his feet were very sweaty and he left a visible foot mark trail marked in sweat everywhere - it was gross . The truth was the guy had no self awareness and was so unapproachable that no one would tell him directly although lots of people commented

He left thankfullySmile
