Woman moving dirty plates onto MY table...

elodie2000 · 27/11/2016 22:55

In cafe today (with friend) sat at one side of a table for 4.
There was another table for 4 next to us which had plates/ wrappers/ teacups on it waiting to be cleared.
A woman and her DH came along and cleared the stuff off the table next to us onto the side of ours before sitting down.
AIBU to think WTF? They had a nice clean table for 4 between the two of them and we aquired a load of dirty plates next to us.
was I wrong to get up and put it all back on their table?
Still cross now...

Bloody cheek!

AwaywiththePixies27 · 28/11/2016 13:09

I have OCD and have a massive phobia of dirty plates. Also have mental health issues. Neither of which would make me rudely plonk a load of dirty plates on to another customers table where they were both seated.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 28/11/2016 13:10

Just read my post back. I meant a phobia of other peoples germed up napkins on top of said dirty plates, not my own. Obviously I wash my own at home. Grin As you were OP

My DH did similar to you once. We were having a drink in a pub in the City of London, lots of suited types there. We were not in suits but fairly smart jeans, so perhaps stood out a bit. Anyway, a suited man finished drinking his pint & put the empty glass on our table. DH pointed out that the bar was, in fact, over there & could the man kindly remove his glass. There followed a heated discussion & my DH was told to 'stick it up your arse', as the man scuttled away with the glass, which brought great giggles to us & also the man's suited friends. Grin

sorry im gonna get slammed for this but my experience with old people lately is that some are god damn rude

Southallgirl · 28/11/2016 13:54

Stef - It's probably a frefrontal cortex issue.

Southallgirl · 28/11/2016 13:55

correction pre not fre.

TheMortificadosDragon · 28/11/2016 14:00

Funny thing, Stef, of late I seem to be noticing more goddamn rude ageism.Hmm

Babyiwantabump · 28/11/2016 14:19

Well done OP!

Once when I was at a Chinese buffet type place a woman on the table next to me leant over and helped herself to my spoon .

I was so shocked I just sat there - wish I could have said something!

WouldHave · 28/11/2016 15:05

What's the relevance of that, Stef? OP hasn't mentioned the age of the people concerned.

kissmethere · 28/11/2016 15:12

Well done for doing something.
I'd hazard a gues this was in Sloane Square? ( just a hunch)

Quintessing · 28/11/2016 17:47

salmon chinos and brogues you say?

I think I met the same couple. I was in a long queue in the airport. These people got into the queue JUST before me, ie they edged in. I did not care. But then came a business man, running like crazy, in just his socks, carrying his shoes and his laptop bag, ticket in his mouth, and asked if he could go infront of this couple, who just then came to the security and were about to put there stuff on the conveyor belt. She said (and I kid you not):
"Dont be so rude, wait your turn like the rest of us"
I let him go infront of me. Some people are so rude.

Well done OP!

I went out with my sister, cousins and our mums last Christmas for a carvery lunch. My mums disabled so sat on the outside edge of the table so she could get to the loo should she need to. This was also along the walkway where people queued to get their food. We had lots of people staring at our food while they waited which was bad enough but then one twit actually leaned on the back of my mums chair to speak to someone behind him right over my mums head! I saw red!! Asked loudly for him to not do so and when he didn't apologise I said I'd come and stare at him while he was eating. He and his work friends mumbled and made a point of standing away from our table after that.
Some people are guys and need telling so!

Define 'old'

TroysMammy · 28/11/2016 18:50

Salmon chinos? Was he wearing a yellow shirt and a blue jacket like Michael Portillo?

Greenglassforvino · 28/11/2016 18:53

well done Elodie

CrushedCan · 28/11/2016 19:13

Working in hospitality these are the people we look at and think "are you so fucking dumb or just disgusting?" It takes 2 minutes to clear a table so wait to be seated and wait until they clear the table. Unless it's self serve then they should have asked someone to clear it!

mya83 · 28/11/2016 20:04

.

elodie2000 · 28/11/2016 21:13

They looked like they were in their 50s so not old. She was a bit of a Mrs. Bouquet/Bucket & just wanted an empty, clear table.
Honestly, if they had been an old couple I'd have let it go - someone up thread said 'define old' - well imho, 70 + but everyone's different. We all have different experiences but my grandmother & mother changed dramatically when they hit 70... Their judgement in social situations wasn't great!

Ha, someone did this to me in the John Lewis cafe too! Maybe it was the same rude woman...
I just got up and put them on a table between us and got a sympathetic look from another woman there.

Jaimx86 · 29/11/2016 17:09

Made it on to the Daily Mail....

Tapandgo · 29/11/2016 17:33

Glad you returned the plates - cheeky sods. I once had someone dump all the stuff off a table on a chair next to me!

theDudesmummy · 29/11/2016 17:34

Have not read the whole thread but...SALMON CHINOS? (shudder)

Tapandgo · 29/11/2016 17:35

and salmon pink/bright red/mustard coloured cords are a common uniform in the Cotswolds (you aren't there are you?)
