To want them to LEAVE

Flatmate has her boyfriend staying for a week and I'm the only one also in the house (two other flatmates away this weekend). I don't think they realise I'm in as they have her bedroom door open, have been shouting about who needs to use the shower, it sounds like another friend has randomly come over... I just want to for a wee and have a cheese toastie :( She's a student so has lots of time at home; I work a pressured long hours job and this is my first lie-in in two weeks :( PLEASE GOOOOO

Go out for lunch/close your doooooooor

YellowDinosaur · 26/11/2016 12:26

Lie in? It's the afternoon! Don't get me wrong, I'm not a morning person either, but you're totally unreasonable to expect flatmates not to be making normal noise after 12 on a Saturday

Skimpyfd · 26/11/2016 12:28

They can make noise, im awake - just want house to myself for an hour or two! I have given them loads of privacy over last few days and am never at home - just want to potter in kitchen and go for a wee in peace without it being crowded! She is home a lot, I'm rarely st home!!

Sceptimum · 26/11/2016 12:30

Get up, ask them to keep it down? Have you got earplugs from a plane trip you can bung in for extra kip?
She's paying rent too, I assume, so YABU about her being home but keeping the noise down in the mornings is a reasonable ask.

Blondeandinept · 26/11/2016 12:31

It's the frickin' afternoon!
YABU

ShowMePotatoSalad · 26/11/2016 12:31

YABU, sorry but that's the nature of sharing a house with other people.

Why can't you go for a wee and make a toastie?

YellowDinosaur · 26/11/2016 12:33

I can understand you feeling as you do. But you must see you are being totally unreasonable. It's her home too. Surely when you rent a room in a shared house for 4 it's a given that there will be other people there often!

Skimpyfd · 26/11/2016 12:34

I know, I know, just wanted a rant. When I have friends over they stay in my room, when she has people over they seem to take over the house!!

OP posts:
Skimpyfd · 26/11/2016 12:35

I get it, but as I say I have given them so much privacy/free time over last few days and they have had free reign over house - just ask they head out for a bit and leave me to also have a bit of space - obviously I wouldn't say this!

OP posts:
juneau · 26/11/2016 12:35

If you live in shared flat then sorry, but YABU. If you want to have your home to yourself get your own place, it's as simple as that. Otherwise, accept that you live with others and they aren't going to just go out, because you want them to.

Trifleorbust · 26/11/2016 12:37

If there are communal areas in a shared house it is not unreasonable for your flatmate to use them to have guests in the middle of the day. She is at home a lot but son what, she lives there. She can't be responsible for the fact that you have a high pressured job.

BratFarrarsPony · 26/11/2016 12:38

it is the afternoon and you have chosen to live in a shared flat.
Stop complaining and get out there if you need to...Confused

ShowMePotatoSalad · 26/11/2016 12:38

This reminds me why I disliked flat sharing so much. There was always such an atmosphere.

Skimpyfd · 26/11/2016 12:38

Just wanted a rant - !!!

OP posts:
Skimpyfd · 26/11/2016 12:39

I am so nice to their faces - there is never an atmosphere!! We are friends.

OP posts:
BratFarrarsPony · 26/11/2016 12:40

oh is it ?

you really didnt sound you sounded moany and self pitying for no reason...:)

gamerchick · 26/11/2016 12:40

Rant away, sharing sounds like hell to me.

Go and make your toasty, cosy up in bed with it and stick a film on.

gamerchick · 26/11/2016 12:41

Ah I want a cheese toasty now!

SuperPug · 26/11/2016 12:45

Been in this situation, high tension even when you all get along. Why stay in your room with friends? You should use the shared area too?
To be fair, you're paying rent as well so have your wee and cheese toastie Smile They can't control the bathroom, just go in and use it if it's free. If it's being unfairly controlled by others, mention it. Better that, than to let it fester...

loobyloo1234 · 26/11/2016 12:50

YANBU, I feel your pain Grin its happening to me right now with my lazy sister and her BF. Please just go out and fuck off. I just want to sit around in my PJ's

cheweduprope · 26/11/2016 12:50

I didn't actually get what the rant is about? Why can't you go for a wee or make a cheese toastie?

ChickenVindaloo2 · 26/11/2016 12:53

This is why I'd rather live in a tupperware box alone (with cat) than with any humans ever again.

MsJamieFraser · 26/11/2016 12:54

yabu, if you flat share, then you cannot dictate to have the house to yourself, if this is what you need then you need your own place.

ItShouldHaveBeenJingleJess · 26/11/2016 13:09

I sort of commiserate with the OP. Today my flat is chilly and rather messy BUT it belongs to me and DS alone - aaahhhhh.

Have done my time in flat shares and am very grateful I don't have to do them again.

Baylisiana · 26/11/2016 13:15

I don't know the OP's situation but there are parts of the country where getting her own place might be out of the question.
