To think that boys are naturally smellier than girls?

I've noticed when changing my 14 month old DS nappy that he had this "odour" coming from his nether regions.

I bath him every night and change his bum frequently and always give him a good wipe down with baby wipes but every time I change his nappy this smell is there.

I've never smelled anything remotely similar with my DD. When I mentioned it to a friend they said boys are naturally smellier down there but another said it was a sign of concern and I shouldn't be bathing him every night? 🤔

I've got a DS and a DD, I don't notice any smell from DS... we bathe him infrequently due to his very sensitive skin...

BarbarianMum · 25/11/2016 14:30

Can't say I noticed any bad smells with my boys (except nappy smells). Why would boys be smellier? I'd be concerned something's wrong. Try another brand of nappy and see if it still happens.

Zaratall · 25/11/2016 14:30

What kind of smell?

Yankeetarts · 25/11/2016 14:31

I've a dd and ds bathed them every night no difference in smells between them

BearGryllsHasaBigRope · 25/11/2016 14:31

I've had two boys, and things could get a bit whiffy if they'd not had a bath for a while or not been wiped properly... But not every nappy change, and not if they were bathed daily. I don't know what's 'normal' though, just giving my experience.

Anecdote does not make data.

Your sample size of 1, does not make it true.

I have never noticed one sex being smellier. If he has a strange odour I'd take him to the GP - it could well be a "health thing" rather than a "boy thing".

allegretto · 25/11/2016 14:32

I think it depends on the child. I have two boys and a girl. One of the boys has always had a distinctive odour - not really bad but not great either. It's just his natural perfume! Boy wee definitely smells different to girl wee. Boy wee smells like mens' toilets do, unsurprisingly.

TheWitTank · 25/11/2016 14:32

I can't remember smelling a difference with my two. If there is an odour, I would be concerned about a possible infection?

DesignedForLife · 25/11/2016 14:33

Are you sure you're cleaning him properly? You should get it checked out by practice nurse imo as boys can get build up of smelly gunk behind foreskins, or could be thrush.

myoriginal3 · 25/11/2016 14:33

I assume the smell is from his penis?

PinkyPie80 · 25/11/2016 14:33

It's hard to describe - it's almost like old ladies wee?!? It goes as soon as I bathe him or give him a good wipe down with the baby wipes.

My boy and girl get bathed daily using the same soap (infacare). When I kiss them goodnight my daughter smells of laundry detergent, and soap. My son smells of cooked pasta HmmConfused

DesignedForLife · 25/11/2016 14:35

Where is the smell coming from?

If it smells like wee do his nappies smell? Could be a UTI

MabelSideswipe · 25/11/2016 14:35

Never noticed a difference and my older boys are not smellier than the girl. She does cover her unwashed smell up with nasty body spray and cheap perfume though....the boys don't bother. My cleanest child is a 13 year old boy.

1happyhippie · 25/11/2016 14:35

Two girls and a boy here.
Can't really say I noticed a difference to be honest.

What kind of smell is it?

Clara81 · 25/11/2016 14:36

Apparently boy wee is smellier than girl wee, and that's across all species. Seems true for humans, unisex toilets always smell far worse than ladies ones.

PinkyPie80 · 25/11/2016 14:38

I'm wondering whether it's the urine that smells as as soon as I wash him it goes away. I think that's what my friend was suggesting when she said that boys are smellier than girls
