Not me that's for sure! Anyone else feeling the same?

DH had a look earlier and found a Black Friday Bargain toilet seat that weighs you before and after you have a poo. Hmm I think a lot of the stuff is just bought because people enter some kind of fugue state on Black Friday, mindlessly buying everything in their paths.

Rampant consumerism at its worst and almost enough to turn me into a raving communist.

Oxfam goats for all this Christmas!

Meadows76 · 25/11/2016 08:13

Just got it for 50% off from Argos, I'm picking it up tomorrow. I just looked at Argos, most of their 50% off is just good marketing. Had a Google at 4 different items that were massive,y reduced to find them at similar prices elsewhere anyway. Double check your TV.....

musicposy · 25/11/2016 08:13

previously thank you, I will do.

After all that I have bought a 12 pack of iced tea on Amazon Confused. Such is the result of browsing lightning deals at gone midnight. Let this be a warning!

AmberEars · 25/11/2016 08:14

YANBU. I'm not planning to buy anything today!

ValaMalDoran · 25/11/2016 08:20

*Make your Christmas shopping list.

Price up the items.

See if they actually are significantly cheaper when you add postage (if bought online).

Don't deviate from the list and get tempted to buy shit just because it's cheap.*

We did this last year we monitored prices over a few months as we had money coming but didn't get it until November.

We knew exactly what we wanted and how much it should be.

I would say as much as 90% of the deals were not more than £10 or £20 cheaper than they had been in the weeks running up to it. We did get some bargains but we really had to trawl for them.

ValaMalDoran · 25/11/2016 08:23

Tesco surprisingly were best for a couple of bits but it wasn't exactly a cram. I went down at 7pm and the bits I wanted were all there, presumably as they were boring things like an iron. the amazon flash deals on board games were good as well.

Mrsemcgregor · 25/11/2016 08:28

I got my 2 kindle fires for the kids for £30 each. That's all I wanted and all I am tempted to look at. Blanking the rest!

TheCompanyOfCats · 25/11/2016 08:31

I feel like the media are really trying to make Black Friday happen and it just isn't.

This morning, the news was full of stories of people 'charging' into the shops at dawn, but the video/ photographic evidence didn't back that up. A few thin lines of people outside a few supermarkets.

Well done fellow countrymen (and women)!

expatinscotland · 25/11/2016 08:33

I finished shopping a couple of weeks ago.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 25/11/2016 08:35

I thought Black Friday was last week? It's horrible seeing pictures of people fighting over flatscreen tvs. There's something so undignified about it. Confused

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 25/11/2016 08:38

I am happy as I bought a john rocha duvet set from debenhams last week, it went in the sale two days after I bought it Sad but debenhams have refunded me the difference! well impressed.

It annoys me! Don't get me wrong, I love a bargain but I don't need anything so badly I'll battle in scrums, wait for hours online etc., and the so-called bargains aren't even that great.

Last year's stock, inflated prices they then drop to make it look like a good deal…so over it.

What I do like is when smaller, local retailers get in on the act with a genuinely nice offer. A friend of mine started her own business a year ago and her Black Friday deal is a free mini candle with every purchase (she makes candles!) rather than a dramatic price cut. I'm more interested in deals like that!

Minivaperviper · 25/11/2016 09:18

Today's the day I decide to go shopping for paint, I doubt hope b&q won't be mobbed.

Other than that don't give a stuff about black Friday, if I want something shopping online on Christmas day is the way to go.

SerialReJoiner · 25/11/2016 09:27

The Which? magazine did some research on this, and a LOT of the products were cheaper in September - prices raised in mid-October, then magically reduced again for Black Friday. And then, the prices lowered even more after Christmas! It's all a con.

Laiste · 25/11/2016 09:33

I guess IF there's something you really want and IF you've been happy to wait for it till today and IF this thing dropped to some amazing price at midnight and IF there's any left by 10 past midnight and IF you are able to get there in time today in a car or a van because the shop's website is crashed then maybe Black Friday is a good thing?

Not for me though. All the media hype makes me more determined to ignore it. It all sounds too much like hard work and i finished all my xmas shopping 2 weeks ago

lollylou2876 · 25/11/2016 09:36

I was after two items - one has gone up by £10 and the other £20. Needless to say to say I won't be buying!

Dingarees · 25/11/2016 09:36

No one cares.

GinIsIn · 25/11/2016 09:41

I normally avoid it like the plague so was pleasantly surprised to get £100 off the new fridge freezer I had been planning to buy anyway!

Also worthwhile where places haven't bothered to mark down specific stock and have done a blanket discount on everything.

For example 50% off everything at French connection and miss selfridge today
30% off all Ted Baker
20% off all office and Asos

RebootYourEngine · 25/11/2016 09:42

I had a lovely walk round asda this morning because they are not doing black friday.

YouTheCat · 25/11/2016 09:47

Last year during Black Friday, I was in the gym. Asda is practically next door. Then the fire alarms started going off and it was absolute bedlam. Grin

specialsubject · 25/11/2016 09:48

The Argos site says it all: 'spread the cost of Christmas, representative a p r 29.9%'

The sad thing is that people will do it.

Birdsgottafly · 25/11/2016 09:50

Last year I got Vtech Toot Toot sets 70% off, they didn't go as cheap again.

A couple of things that I wanted from QVC have gone on easy payments (three months, no interest), so that's been a help.

I'm moving house before Christmas and I've got Bathroom storage units, cheaper.

My girls have got stuff from River Island.

You've just got to take Martin Lewis's advice.

ChuckGravestones · 25/11/2016 09:51

I don't care. I have a rule on my emails that anything with 'black friday' goes straight to the junk folder.

nennyrainbow · 25/11/2016 09:56

Generally I ignore it, but last year I got an Amazon Kids tablet that I'd had my eye on for 1/3 off the normal price. As other pp have said, if you know what you want and what it costs, it's worth waiting for BF to see if it's cheaper. But no, I don't intend to buy anything today.
