So he's an adulterous, racist, abusive arse man who my male family are glued to on Amazon Prime. WIBU to remind them of his shortcomings and to wonder how in the fuck the narcissistic pig presenter persuaded Amazon to back him?

Yabvu

FFS! I know the fucking show is superb, but he stands for some rubbish ideals - similar in fact the Donald we've all been jumping up and down about. Abusive racist, narcissistic - would Trump be OK if he could present a decent car show? Hmm

Shows exactly why the BBC & license fee needs to be axed. Crap decision from them.
Clarkson is not everyone's cup of tea, however I'd rather watch him than most of the "safe" inane drivel that the BBC churn out

ghostyslovesheets · 20/11/2016 23:20

He was sacked for assaulting a co worker - same as would happen in most jobs

Do you think it's ok to racially abuse and punch a fellow worker because you can't get a hot meal?

BoneyBackJefferson · 20/11/2016 23:22

ghostyslovesheets

Technically he wasn't sacked.

OfaFrenchmind2 · 20/11/2016 23:22

But Trump presented an abyssal show! I am not crazy about cars, so i do not watch TGT, but it can be refreshing not to have an identikit presenter like on the BBC. They make you want to weep because they are so dull. At least the dude cannot be accused of that!

BitOutOfPractice · 20/11/2016 23:25

I loathe the man.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 20/11/2016 23:26

Dull is exactly how I'd describe him!

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 20/11/2016 23:39

You probably interact daily and quite happily with people like Clarkson, you just don't notice it or are not in a situation where it would show.

Look at how many adulterers have been on Strictly, but I haven't seen calls to have that taken off TV.

Confused

Summary of episode 1:

  • Three nice cars, nice footage of said cars, some pointless bickering about which was best as usual. This was OK and expected.
  • Some weird sketch where several so guests were about to appear and then 'died' before you ended up with Carol Vorderman on the floor (?).
  • Some bit where they attempted to try to get an American audience to agree that the RAF was best in world that went on and on and on.
  • Lost interest and went on Mumsnet..

First episode was like a parody of the old Top Gear or rather old Top Gear without the neat editing. Nothing personal against any of the three presenters - I hope that they make a success of it.

The BBC had become the wrong place for them - JC takes pride on baiting dangerous people for 'good television', but the BBC also has a role as being an ambassador for the UK. Top Gear was too high profile to fly under the radar any more. The move was ultimately in the best interests of everyone (except for cash poor Top Gear fans who now have to fork out for Amazon Prime I suppose).

We don't need JC as an MP - we have already got Boris Johnson to make all the non-PC jokes the world can handle, 2 of them would be completely over doing it but then clearly some people don't know when to stop.

Imagine we start judging who we define to be suitable to be on our telly, and who isn't because of their private life - we'd be back to the testcard from the fifties for lack of TV slebs, and anything we watch would be sterilised to be suitable. I may not like JC but I like a good car show. I may not like a few of them in the jungle but that inane nonsense of a show amuses me, as does Strictly. And so on...

Costacoffeeplease · 21/11/2016 08:08

Has anyone appearing on strictly, punched and verbally abused a colleague on the show?

treaclesoda · 21/11/2016 08:15

But JC doesn't work on the show where he abused someone, he was 'let go'. Make no mistake, I think he's an arsehole, but there are arseholes in offices all over the country as well who have verbally abused colleagues and sometimes even thrown punches. In a decent workplace, those people are sacked. But they usually do find a job elsewhere and begin again. It's just that in this case he is a high profile person who has done it.

WouldHave · 21/11/2016 08:18

Funny isn't it, I also have a friend at the BBC who claims the guy clarkson hit was brought in to goad and cause clarkson to walk as the BBC were beginning to see him as a liability.

What absolute bollocks. No-one "goaded" Clarkson into being an arsehole just because he couldn't get a hot meal after the kitchen had closed. He did that all by himself. And he didn't walk, he was very definitely pushed. If the BBC wanted to get rid, all they had to do was decide not to renew his contract.

Ifailed · 21/11/2016 08:25

I think Stewart Lee sums it up pretty well:

Roussette · 21/11/2016 08:42

But we are not watching this on the BBC are we? He left/was let go and petrol heads out there are watching him on a different medium. As treacle says, he has started again.

I worked with a Sales Manager who pushed and shoved one of the sales team (and verbally abused them all too) .A nasty nasty piece of work and I'm glad he lost his cool because it meant he was sacked. However, someone who was still in contact told me he started again elsewhere and has been quite successful. All his new colleagues haven't walked out because of what he did before. That's life.

WouldHave · 21/11/2016 08:49

By the last couple of Top Gear series it was becoming increasingly obvious that they were running out of ideas. Most of the stunts were simply stupid to the point of being tedious, especially when they introduced obviously artificial "accidents" to try to liven them up a bit. Unfortunately Grand Tour has simply continued along the same lines - RC1234's summary of the first episode is very accurate.
