To ask if you'd prefer a double garage or a single garage with a kitchen diner?

We are looking to convert a largely unused double garage to a single garage and use the other side to attach onto the kitchen as a dining room but I'm concerned this might put off future buyers so what would you prefer if you were buying?

Single garage and kitchen diner for sure. Most people use garages as a large shed.

InfiniteSheldon · 20/11/2016 12:45

Double garage. Garage conversions often look exactly what they are, awkward rooms in slightly the wrong place. Unless you are going all out with a reconfiguration. If your property is big enough for a double garage why isn't there a dining room?

SheSparkles · 20/11/2016 12:47

Single garage...we actually converted our garage into a second living room and it most certainly doesn't look like anything other than just part of the house

AlpacaPicnic · 20/11/2016 12:48

Kitchen-diner 100%

Disclaimer - I don't have a car. And any 'storage space' like a shed or garage would be filled with crap that canjot possibly be thrown away dhs stuff within nano-seconds...

kilmuir · 20/11/2016 12:48

Single garage and diner. Depends on set up of test of the house

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 20/11/2016 12:49

Single garage and kitchen diner, although I do agree that unless done well they can look awkward.

orangebird69 · 20/11/2016 12:52

Single garage and kitchen diner. We always have at least 2 cars at home and we've never garaged any of them. Garages are extra storange and utility areas for me.

judybloomno5 · 20/11/2016 12:52

We've got a dining room but we want to use it as a playroom/dumping ground

TopKittyKat · 20/11/2016 12:55

Double garage. Definitely!

judybloomno5 · 20/11/2016 12:55

The garage we hope to convert is integral and the one we won't isn't

OP posts:
NapQueen · 20/11/2016 12:56

Single garage plus kitchen/diner and separate playroom!

SoupDragon · 20/11/2016 12:57

Single plus kitchen diner.

As it will be joined onto the kitchen, it won't look in the wrong place.

DramaAlpaca · 20/11/2016 12:57

Single garage & diner, definitely.

StarOnTheTree · 20/11/2016 12:58

Single

SoupDragon · 20/11/2016 12:59

Actually, I would make my choice a slightly-bigger-than-single garage. Large cars often don't fit into single garages.

orangepudding · 20/11/2016 12:59

Single garage plus dining room.

We have an integral single garage and are just about to convert it. We use it as a dumping room, have never stored a car in it, we may as well turn it in to a nice dumping room plus extra living room for teens.

SoupDragon · 20/11/2016 12:59

Although I have a 1.5 garage and just fill it with crap. The car is on the drive!

NameChange30 · 20/11/2016 13:01

Do you have a driveway or allocated parking space?
If so I would go for the single garage and kitchen/diner. Always good to have more living space. You can use the single garage as storage.
If you (or future buyers) need to park a car in the garage, I'd keep the double.

judybloomno5 · 20/11/2016 13:02

We have a drive with enough for 3 cars

OP posts:
HeadDreamer · 20/11/2016 13:03

Single garage with a kitchen diner. And DH is a huge fan of garages, so much so that a garage was a must have when we looked at houses. He thinks one is enough for his man toys.

TheAnswerIsYes · 20/11/2016 13:03

I would go single plus kitchen diner but my husband would want the double garage.

mum2Bomg · 20/11/2016 13:04

Garages always end up full of crap. I'd rather have the extra living space.

AndNowItsSeven · 20/11/2016 13:05

Single, don't see the point of a garage .

Bluntness100 · 20/11/2016 13:05

I'd do kitchen diner single garage, I suspect more people want a kitchen diner rather than a double garage.

However agree with the others, it needs to be done well. A half arsed attempt at it only then just go with the double garage,

NameChange30 · 20/11/2016 13:06

Well given that you have a big drive it's a no brainer IMO. Single garage and kitchen/diner.
