I've lied to get a house

harveyyspecter · 19/11/2016 20:20

And now I'm up shit creek. Don't ask why I did it because I panicked and my mouth started moving before I engaged my brain.

I'm trying to rent a house but no one will accept that I'm on housing benefit and will be going to work next year when dd goes to nursery. So I had a viewing the other day and when they asked about work I said I'm going to work in January. This is partly true.

When she asked if I have a job to go to I said yes Confused I have no idea why and now I'm in a mess!

I know I'm AIBU but help!!

if OP is on a low income, she will get get working tax credit if she works at least 16h and also the tax credits childcare element. Even on a minimum wage she will be better off than relying on benefits (I have done it - not speaking from hear say)*

Yes but she'll only get a MAXIMUM of £122.50 PER WEEK childcare help for one child. It doesn't exactly find a full time baby place in nursery does it?

harveyyspecter · 19/11/2016 21:06

I really can pay. Never been late or missed a payment in my life and never would. I have a guarantor as well. I'm mad at myself for lying but I have to be out of my current house by Christmas.

OP posts:
OldBootNewBoots · 19/11/2016 21:07

I can't blame you either. I wouldn't lie though, I'd get my guarantor to ring up and explain how rock solid your ability to afford it as and their ability to pay if there were any problems. If I understand right, you hang on 2 months you will have a job of the search doesn't take too long so why so desperate to move now? Your dc at 2 is too young to remember where they had Christmas this year so wonder what's driving it.

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 19/11/2016 21:07

Lie then

If you get evicted as a result you will be intentionally homeless. What will you do then?

ghostyslovesheets · 19/11/2016 21:10

MAXIMIM is £175 a week for one child

Pisssssedofff · 19/11/2016 21:11

She won't get evicted as long as she pays the rent, Jesus some of you lot live in la la land

harveyyspecter · 19/11/2016 21:12

I have to move out of this property before Christmas. That's whats driving it unfortunately

OP posts:
Manumission · 19/11/2016 21:13

70% OF £175 a week for one child (£122.50)

thisgirlrides · 19/11/2016 21:13

I'm surprised they're even bothering with financial references for you if you have a guarantor.

Surely the reason for a guarantor is not being able to verify your financial stability - I'd politely remind them that actually your financial position is academic as it will be the guarantor who pays if you default (not that you intend to!!)

CotswoldStrife · 19/11/2016 21:13

The tenant needs to be able to pay though - the guarantor is a last resort for the landlord. The landlord has stated to the letting agent that they want someone working.

OP, I really would back away from this and keep looking - I hope you and your daughter find your new home soon.

ghostyslovesheets · 19/11/2016 21:14

www.familyandchildcaretrust.org/working-parents

nope

Pisssssedofff · 19/11/2016 21:14

Have you got all the money for the fees ? I was asked for £600 off the agents, not the landlords before I could get the keys. On top of £1600 for first month and deposit. Just utter madness these days

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 19/11/2016 21:15

Hmmm pissedoff

Op is proposing to lie.... invalidating landlord insurance by claiming hb

If you were a LL what would you do? Evict or brush under a carpet?

ghostyslovesheets · 19/11/2016 21:15

The childcare element can cover up to 70 per cent of eligible childcare costs. Maximum costs are currently set at £175 per week for one child and £300 per week for two or more children

from the above link

harveyyspecter · 19/11/2016 21:15

Yeah I have the £1400 they've asked for. It's ridiculous. So sick of losing sleep over this Sad

OP posts:
Manumission · 19/11/2016 21:15

What are you saying "nope" to ghosty?

Manumission · 19/11/2016 21:17

The next paragraph from your own link is;

"So, if you have one child in childcare and you pay £175 a week or more, you could receive a maximum of £122.50. With two or more children in childcare, you could receive up to £210 (70 per cent of £300)."

It's just maths Smile

Pisssssedofff · 19/11/2016 21:17

I rent my house out, I haven't got insurance because there's that many clauses they wriggle out of paying its ridiculous. As long as they pay the rent I honestly do not care where the money comes from in all honesty.
Evicting is virtually impossible even if she doesn't pay the rent. It's the garantor I'd care about because as other pp have said they will be paying if it goes pear shaped

ghostyslovesheets · 19/11/2016 21:18

but if you are paying MORE than £175 you would get MORE than £122

it's just maths :)

they pay UP TO a maximum of £175 :)

Pisssssedofff · 19/11/2016 21:19

harveyyspecter as soon as humanly possible buy a house, I would rather live in a shoe box I own than carry one with this palava. There's 5% mortgages now. Get yourself a help to buy Isa as soon as possible and get into your own home

harderandharder2breathe · 19/11/2016 21:20

Yabu

You're likely invalidating the ll insurance

What if you don't find a job in January? You've been out of employment for a while, it can be tough, especially as many companies will have had Christmas temps so would probably prefer to take those on permanently rather than risk an unknown new person

Manumission · 19/11/2016 21:20

No, it's capped at £122.50 for one child. Honestly.

That's why they say "maximum weekly cost of £170" is eligible.

It's a tough gig for a single parent to fund FT childcare.

Pisssssedofff · 19/11/2016 21:20

You never get £175 or £300. I had 4 kids in childcare, my bill was £500 a week I got whatever 70% of £300 is

harveyyspecter · 19/11/2016 21:20

If the landlord accepts my application based on the knowledge that I can't get a reference does that mean that the type of mortgage she has does allow HB tenants? As surely she wouldn't be able to let the house out to someone who isn't currently employed even if they say they will be in Jan? So therefore is it a case of whether her 'preferring working tenants' is just nothing more than a preference and not a legitimate requirement?

OP posts:
ohdofeckoffnowdear · 19/11/2016 21:21

Op you can't lie about receiving housing benefit. You would invalidate your landlords insurance and mortgage. Also the council might want to speak to your landlord when doing renewals etc. You would be mad to carry on with this.

I'm on it, I'm stuck in a tiny 2 bed with one dc with autism who keeps his brother awake most of the night, and many other issues. I can't move into anything bigger as they will not take housing benefit.

I know you are desperate but if you go ahead you will be breaking the law. Hope your situation improves for you
