To serve this portion size to my children (pic inc)

My son is on the 75 centile for height , 20 for weight. My daughter is 50 for height, 25 for weight.
As a family we are very very slim (in 5'7 and weigh just under 8 stone). We're very fit, gym, sport etc

My mil saw this and was appalled. Said it was way way too much. My children would be peckish an hour later if they didn't have this kind of lunch (it's the weekend, hence all the breaded items!).

My son is 6, my daughter 3.5

I have 1 or 2

1 roast potato = sad times

JustDanceAddict · 19/11/2016 18:42

Usually 3 roasties of normal size is enough.

ihearttc · 19/11/2016 18:44

I have 2 boys...DS1 is 11 and has always been solid. I know its said a million times on here but he really doesn't eat a huge amount of food and is very active.

DS2 is 6 and literally inhales food. He'd eat the amount on that plate and then ask where the rest was. However he is very skinny to the extent that int he summer he was wearing age 18-24 month shorts as they were the only ones that would stay up.

Both fed exactly the same type of food yet 2 completely different metabolism's.

WankingMonkey · 19/11/2016 18:49

6 to 8 roast potatoes with the average MN roast dinner?! Really? That seems like loads to me. What else is on the plate? There wouldn't be much room for other food with 8 roast potatoes!

Adult sized for me would be 3 roasties (2 if having mash also...then 2 roasties and a spoon of mash). Maybe a whole carrots worth. Spoon of peas. 2 small yorkshires or one larger one. Gravy. Probably too much meat though if I am honest...4 or 5 slices of beef/chicken/whatever

8 roast potatoes, unless very very small sounds insane.

Amalfimamma · 19/11/2016 18:55

Just to complete the day.

Dd had

Snack
Fruit salad and Greek yoghurt

Dinner
Minestrone
Salmon fishcakes
Lettuce and tomato salad
Pear

Tea
Bread with mortadella and parmesan

She'll head to bed soon with another 10 ounce bottle with 4 hipp biscuits in it.

Motherfuckers · 19/11/2016 19:06

Your daughter may not be overweight yet Amalfi, but I bet she has a head full of rotten teeth! You put biscuits in her bedtime bottle? Shock

Amalfimamma · 19/11/2016 19:09

Motherfuckers
Neither overweight nor with rotten teeth because she brushes her teeth before sleeping as most people do

Motherfuckers · 19/11/2016 19:11

You said earlier you use a bottle of milk to get her to sleep, so then you wake her again to do her teeth? Grin

Bertucci · 19/11/2016 19:14

6 to 8 roast potatoes? That's ridiculous.

Amalfimamma · 19/11/2016 19:14

No I didn't. I said she'll head to bed with a bottle in her. It's not advisable to get your child to sleep with a bottle......especially one with biscuits in it. 😐

BratFarrarsPony · 19/11/2016 19:16

doesnt that block the teat in the bottle Amalfimamma?
Not that I am criticising, just curious.

Motherfuckers · 19/11/2016 19:19

Why sweeten something that already has high levels of sugars though? Even if you do brush her teeth before her nap?

Amalfimamma · 19/11/2016 19:20

BratFarrarsPony

No because they are biscuits that melt completely in the milk. You can get them in powder form to. And I've only seen them in italy tbh.

Motherfuckers · 19/11/2016 19:20

And re-read your post, you actually said you will send her to bed with her bottle, so you can naturally see my confusion.

Ilovenannyplum · 19/11/2016 19:30

My 2yr old would eat that amount

ohdearme1958 · 19/11/2016 19:36

Amal your wee one sounds fabulous, as do you

crashdoll · 19/11/2016 19:38

It's cute when they're chubby aged 2 and mummy smiles because her big boy can put away 3 weetabix and a slice of toast. It's less cute when they're 6 and needing more and more food because they're growing and the weight is piling on.

BratFarrarsPony · 19/11/2016 19:38

There seem to be lots of things you can only get in Italy...
like camomile powders to put in your baby's bottle, as I recall. when I came back from Italy and started giving my toddlers camomile to make them sleep, my dad tipped it down the sink!
Anyway your LO sounds great, with a good appetite.

Badcat666 · 19/11/2016 19:39

Amal - Please can I come and live with you? Your kiddies meal menu sounds delish and super healthy! Smile (I oddly have a craving for farleys rusks and milk now) Grin

Amalfimamma · 19/11/2016 19:55

BratFarrarsPony

Can you not get instant camomile at Home? 😯 makes mental note to pack it on next trip home would you like me to send you over Some?

Badcat666 you may......but no rusk for you...only wine and limoncello, even if tonight I'm on the homemade chocolate liquor so I may not last long 😂😁

witsender · 19/11/2016 19:56

I'm coming to live with you Amalfi

witsender · 19/11/2016 19:57

I see I have competition....booooooo.

BratFarrarsPony · 19/11/2016 19:59

:) that is very kind of you Amalfi mumma...but my babies just turned 18...Grin
no we just have the ordinary camomile teabags...

Badcat666 · 19/11/2016 20:02

Amal Flowers

ohdearme1958 · 19/11/2016 20:27
