To serve this portion size to my children (pic inc)

My son is on the 75 centile for height , 20 for weight. My daughter is 50 for height, 25 for weight.
As a family we are very very slim (in 5'7 and weigh just under 8 stone). We're very fit, gym, sport etc

My mil saw this and was appalled. Said it was way way too much. My children would be peckish an hour later if they didn't have this kind of lunch (it's the weekend, hence all the breaded items!).

My son is 6, my daughter 3.5

Does everything on this site end up on the daily fail???!

gemma19846 · 21/11/2016 14:30

Veg isnt carbs its a protein. Carbs are potato, pasta, rice etc

Amalfimamma · 21/11/2016 14:32

I like how the daily fail said they'd contacted a nutritionist for comment. but then not added that comment to their story.

Is the daily fail written by bored 12 year olds who copy and paste from the internet?

FFS

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/11/2016 14:45

Rice is (incomplete) protein.

Oblomov16 · 21/11/2016 15:02

Oh no. Not the daily fail!!
I was just about the post our dinners, for amusement. I won't bother now,

We I only do huge dinners. No room on the plate for a cigarette paper. Huge roasts; pie, potatoes and 3 steamed veg.....And still my 2 are slim with ferocious appetites.

Come for dinner OP, I'll soon get you fed! Then your mil won't be able to make sarky comments!

pringlecat · 21/11/2016 15:17

How is this even news?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 21/11/2016 15:34

Veg isnt carbs its a protein

They really aren't , they are primarily composed of carbs...

SooBee61 · 21/11/2016 15:35

MIL's like to criticise. Ignore her. I am your height and wish I had your weight!

KarolinaIris · 21/11/2016 16:03

It really pisses me off when others tell you whats right and wrong for your child. Each child is different! When I was between 10-16 I could eat loaf of bread made into sandwiches for supper! And yes I had massive dinners too yet was size 0! But then again I was training volleyball handball and swam 3-5 miles a day. Don't worry if your children are not getting fat but burning off the energy then they need to eat right. Sportsmen eat well above norm too

MummyWolf79 · 21/11/2016 16:07

Look bloody marvellous to me, tell MIL to fuck right off!!!

TotallyOuting · 21/11/2016 17:15

Veg isnt carbs its a protein.

LOL what?

hoddtastic · 21/11/2016 17:19

a loaf of bread made into sandwiches and size zero. Talk me through this wonder bread previous poster? :D

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/11/2016 17:54

I've been reading up protein in veg, some has more than a boiled egg! Interesting googling!

PleaseNotTrump · 21/11/2016 18:01

FUCKING DAILY MAIL IS RUNNING THIS NOW, OP.

PleaseNotTrump · 21/11/2016 18:04

Whoops, didn't RTFT Blush.

How desperate are those bastards? It's just a plate of food ffs. How embarrassing to spend your days nicking boring stuff off the internet.

bluebellsparklypants · 21/11/2016 20:14

Portions look fine to me
It's not the best of her to go on about portions being too big in front of the kids as don't want them to get any complex around food

CornishGinger · 21/11/2016 20:26

My god! Carrots are carbs, the breaded part on the mozzerella is carbs, just because it isn't a potato doesn't make it a carb! They are healthy carbs! Anyway...maybe they had two slices of white toast for brekkie...would that make everyone happier? I don't have carbs with every lunch but I do for brekkie, is that OK with everyone?

CornishGinger · 21/11/2016 20:28

Also...my kids eat a bigger portion than that so no I don't think it's too big.

Kewcumber · 21/11/2016 20:33

How on earth do you turn a plate of chicken and veg into a "newspaper" story Hmm

Luluandizzy · 21/11/2016 20:52

Looks absolutely fine to me, your MIL must eat like a sparrow! That or she just loves to critisize.

Melassa · 21/11/2016 21:05

Italy has one of the highest percentages of overweight children in the world, so it would seem the Mediterranean diet, is slowly becoming a thing of the past.

Most of the chubby children seem to be concentrated in the south of the country, for exactly the reason Amalfimamma cites, the nonna feeders with huge plates of pasta and ragù. Up north (from anecdata based on DD's peers, friends and family/families of friends) most children are what I would call regular sized and there seem to be fewer overweight kids, maybe one or two per school year. When we go to the UK or to the southern Italy DD gets tutted at for being too skinny, which she's not.

By the way, the biscuits in the bottle thing appears to be another southern Italian thing. We get warned against it because of the risks but down south it seems to be encouraged by the pediatri.

Melassa · 21/11/2016 21:07

Eek! Didn't notice the fucking DM!!! Is nothing sacred anymore???

Southsearocks · 21/11/2016 21:10

Where's Dr Gillian McKeith when you need her? Grin
