We have a holiday booked for next year but I feel so unsettled by the election results. The appointment of his cabinet (including Jeff Sessions who was turned down previously for a job due to alleged racist remarks), make me feel fearful for my family (DC and I look Muslim but are not).

Obviously, I know this is a frivolous concern with all the other worries his election brings.

We were so looking forward to going (Feb) but now it feels wrong. DH feels equally torn.

Just to clarify, I was replying to GabsAlot's last post.

of course always cause for concern but that goes for anywhere

and as you said we're not all tuned idiots overnight-most of us are being quite rational about this

GabsAlot · 19/11/2016 00:27

Disney will be absolutely fine. It is and always has been full of masses of people of all races and beliefs. It's like a gigantic bubble. I didn't hear a word of election talk in Disney. I dot even recall seeing any election stuff around there. It was the more northern states we saw the posters etc.

You'll be fine.

'For goodness sake'? Are you white by any chance Helenway? Hmm

And, for what it's worth, most of the reported racists incidents have come from states in the North.

At last count, Hillary is ahead in the popular vote by 1.5 million votes.

I would go if I'd already booked it, no point losing so much money. Hopefully you will meet some of the majority of Americans who voted for Hillary.
I said a long time ago that I wouldn't go to the US if Trump won and I'm sticking to that. My annual NYC trip won't happen for the next 4 years. It's not a boycott designed to penalise the American people but I wouldn't feel comfortable in a country with such a sexist, racist leader. In the same way as I don't want to holiday in Dubai, because of the attitude to women shown by the authorities (see recent rape case).
