I had laparoscopic surgery on Tuesday. It didn't quite go to plan and now I have a wound and bruise about triple the size it should have been along side 3 other normal incision sites.

It's sore and uncomfortable and the painkillers I got at the hospital don't work (co-dydromol).

It's probably not great for my recovery but would it be terribly unreasonable to have 3 large glasses of red and got to bed early?!

Ouch, that sounds really uncomfortable. I hope you're pain goes soon. However, I'm no medical expert, but I would advise against the wine as it will thin your blood and could make the healing process take longer. Sorry

Codeine and red wine is a classic combo for pain management but one glass will do the job on top of the dose you'll get from co-dydromol.
Eat, meds, wine, bed.

Have a glass and go to bed early if you like. You are most probably in shock. I think people underestimate how emotionally debilitating having gynae stuff is too x

Are they called dermoid? I'm really surprised there haven't been medical advances made by these clever cysts that grow teeth and hair and God knows what! It's fascinating isn't it? We're you allowed to look at it?

Enjoy the wine, you need to look after your emotional health and the wine works better that co-codamol for that.

The nurse was very excited and dashed off to see if they took photos of it, unfortunately she couldn't find any.

I definitely think they need to do more research, if my body can make teeth and bone for no reason surely they can make something more useful?!

And yes they are called Dermoids or terratomas. There are some great google images if you are not squeamish.

You can have wine because I love googling gross stuff and it's your reward lol.

I drink wine with codydramol most nights of the week and am fine. It will make you pleasantly relaxed and sleepy.

Seriously, dermoid cysts are creepily weird. I bet you feel that's better out than in! You definitely deserve wine and chocolate and anything else you fancy.

Have one large glass and an early night it's the least you deserve. Kinda wish my body would grow something cool and gross too ...

I don't know if it is any help, but I found, after gynae surgery, that I needed to lie down horizontally at regular intervals. Otherwise I just felt awful. I think it is the swelling. It sounds like you had a bigger op than expected so there will probably be more swelling.

Pottering is ok, lying horizontal at the very minute you get tired is ok. Sitting for any length of time makes everything worse.

cherylene I have noticed that when I am standing or sitting there is a very uncomfortable tugging sensation so I have been mostly horizontal!
