To keep her home from school for this?

DD14 has had the most awful diorreha today, she describes it as weeing from her bum and has been sick once. She says other than that and a slight tummy ache she feels fine.

There is a nasty bug going around and the school sent out an email a week or so back saying to keep anyone with sickness or diorreha off school for the suggested 48hours after.

DD says she is absolutely fine to go to school and I wouldn't usually keep her off but I'm just not sure. DH says it's Friday so If she is poorly one day won't hurt then the whole weekend to rest and recover.

She needs to stay home. It's likely to be a bug that she could pass on.

Please don't send her in till she's 48 hours clear, and eating and drinking. She'll only spread the bug even more.

Eveyone gets an icky tummy from time to time so I would usually say if she's otherwise feeling fine then send her in. But as the school have told you to keep anyone who's had diorreha or throwing up off then she should stay home.

I agree with your DH, even if it's nothing she's only going to have one day off and then it's the weekend and she'll be back in on Monday, providing it doesn't get worse of course.

Last week we had a child come into school who had been sick with d&v the day before. He managed to spread it around to at least 3 other children, one of whom had to be hospitalised because of a pre existing condition.

It's 48 hours for a reason. She might be fine, but that's not why she should stay off!

Keep her at home and let her recover fully. It's only one day off. The 48hr rule is there for a reason and people who ignore it are responsible for spreading the illness further.

No way! Keep her home. Unless you want to ruin everyone else's weekend?

The exclusion rule isn't in place for the benefit of your DD though - it's to protect other kids from catching it from her. Even if she feels fine, others she passes it on to might not. Best to keep her off.

It is 48 hours after the last bout of diahorrea or sickness. This isn't even close to being a borderline call.

She should be at home.

This makes me cross that you should even contemplate sending her in. It's a really selfish attitude IMO.

Jeez, no wonder this sick/ diarrhoea bug that's going round is spreading like wildfire.

The 48 hour rule isn't a rule from year 7 onwards though but as the school have asked parents to keep kids off then I'd keep her off.

If they've requested this on this occasion, I'd keep her off. However, the last time DS2 had a sickness bug, the school (secondary) rang up on the second day and said they don't have a 48-hour exclusion policy, which surprised me. His attendance prior to that was 100%, so it wasn't a case of chasing him back into school.

At secondary this isn't a rule but as the letter has been sent home advising this I would keep her home.

If you send her in, she will spread the infection to other people - she needs to stay at home until the diarrhoea has stopped, and she has been normal for at least 24 hours - though many schools say 48 now, so if that's their policy, you must abide by it.

Why are people talking about what the rules say? No decent person takes themselves (or someone else) out of the home less than 48hrs after D or V - rules or otherwise
