What televisions do you have in your bedrooms?

blankpieceofpaper · 17/11/2016 19:51

I want to install a television in a bedroom that is independent from the set up to the main television in the lounge.

What size of television do you have? Do you have an Amazon Fire television stick or similar? Any recommendations? I don't want it to be massive, and I will be putting it on a stand rather than the wall. Any recommendations as to brands etc?

No tv but only because I haven't got anywhere to put one otherwise I would have!!
I have to make do with my ipad or laptop if I want to watch anything in bed.

FockerFun · 17/11/2016 22:59

I've got a tiny room & thinking of getting a projector

EveOnline2016 · 17/11/2016 23:01

I have 2 a 32in and a 22in both connected to my PC as I'm a gamer. So I log into my sky and Netflix ect and stream it to my 32in.

Also have a free view areal so can watch those channels

PterodactylToenails · 17/11/2016 23:03

I have a 37 inch Samsung smart TV with sky multi room and love it. I don't use it much but there are evenings when I love snuggling up in bed to watch a movie or watching iplayer on a Sunday. I can also see my TV from my ensuite so can even lounge in the bath watching it. I couldn't care less if people hate the idea of a TV in the bedroom I love it!

MidniteScribbler · 17/11/2016 23:07

32" in my bedroom at home with Foxtel (Aussie version of Sky) and a Telstra TV receiver (for netflix). 42" with all of the above at my holiday house. I love laying in bed watching tv.

tinyterrors · 17/11/2016 23:09

We've got a 45" Panasonic in the bedroom (old lounge TV) with dvd player and v+ box. Our room isn't huge but I love the bog TV because I can watch it in bed without needing my glasses 🙂 so much better cuddling up to watch a film without the glasses digging in.

The kids have got 32" tvs with Virgin boxes (rubbish signal for freeview). It saves a ridiculous amount of arguing over what to watch on TV.

Twofurrycats · 17/11/2016 23:23

A smallish white one. Whatever was second cheapest in curry's tbh on the day the giant, ancient thing died. There is an aerial point up there but it points at a relay transmitter that gets bugger all channels. I bought a flat white aerial from tesco pointed the right direction: gets all free view channels

LagunaBubbles · 17/11/2016 23:33

Nothing like a thread about TVs to bring out certain people eh?! I'm surprised you aren't getting criticised yet OP for having one at all, never mind in your bedroom, becauae didn't you know TV is the devil!

Anyway we have a really really tiny portable in our bedroom that's a bit tempermental about switching on, I think it's about time we upgraded! Our TV downstairs is 55. 32 would be OK for our bedroom, maybe a bit smaller.

YelloDraw · 17/11/2016 23:38

None. The blue light is terrible for sleep hygiene although I do miss last weekend mornings in bed.

YelloDraw · 17/11/2016 23:38

Can't type.
Lazy mornings in bed watching Saturday kitchen

RitaCrudgington · 17/11/2016 23:39

I've got a cheap little Toshiba 19 inch telly with integrated DVD player in the kitchen. DH installed it for me as a present and it's my special friend when I'm baking. Freeview off an ariel and a Chromecast plugged in at the back and operated via my phone for when I want to watch iPlayer. Integrated DVD player v useful for a binge on my old Buffy box sets.

We don't have TVs in bedrooms in general but spare room has inherited the living room telly and old Humax box because PILs stay for a few days at a time and they like their telly in the morning and we sometimes have other visitors staying for a few days who might like space of their own. Bear in mind that with a modern telly it can double up as a radio or alarm clock which saves a bit of space.

hungryhippo90 · 17/11/2016 23:43

We've got a 32" led TV in both rooms. On is smart, which DD has. The other is more basic.
My TV has been on three times in the 5 months I've had it, DDs TV gets used every few weeks... so we don't have the flashiest things.

I would recommend LED and smart, whatever you do though. Smart saves so much faff. Netflix is also great! ...I hear good things about KODI. I haven't the inclination to find out more, but a TV in the bedroom for if I'm ever I'll, or have the time to watch is lovely.

sassymuffin · 18/11/2016 01:06

We have a 32" Samsung Smart TV hooked up to a virgin media tivo box, DH records all his rubbish programmes on the bedroom box and I record all my shows on the living room tivo box.

DH is often poorly and needs bed rest so it saves his sanity, having two separate boxes also stops him moaning about me cluttering up and not deleting programmes downstairs. We used to have sky and he would nearly hyperventilate if there was less than 10% storage left Grin

StrawberryLime · 18/11/2016 01:38

We have a TV in the living room. That's it. Fight it out amongst yourselves who watches what or set to record and watch tomorrow if you don't get your turn to watch this time!
You have a tablet, and a laptop. There's such a thing called catch up to watch the next day at a more reasonable hour too.
No telly in bedrooms, totally conducive to sleep!

torthecatlady · 18/11/2016 02:32

When I lived alone, I used to have a 32 inch (cheap brand) in my bedroom. Not a smart TV, but connected to my Xbox, so had access to Netflix, DVDs etc.

When I moved in with my now DH we decided to put that one in the living room and forego one in the bedroom.

We are hoping to replace the 32 inch in the living room in the next year or so, so it may well end up in a bedroom then!

HeyOverHere · 18/11/2016 05:00

I've had the same, small CRT in my bedroom for ten years, but I haven't even used it in over a year. I'm not sure it's even plugged in. But I don't have a cable jack in there, and I live below grade, so antenna reception has gone to shit since they forced out analog signals in my country.

So I'm planning on getting a small flatscreen that I can set on shelves or hook to the wall, just to use with what air signals it can pick up, and streaming media (Netflix, YouTube, via Plex or USB stick, etc). Not a large one, maybe a 19"--something that'd cost under $100. I really just want to watch Colbert in bed at night if I can, check the weather, stream art when I'm in there, and use Netflix or music in the morning to help me get going!

(And maaaaaayyyyyyyyybe to have the entire library of South Park at my fingertips.)

(Maybe.)

(Grin)

Don't be sorry you asked OP some people have no restraint and just have to be negative. You were very clear in your title that you were looking for a recommendation.

SlottedSpoon · 18/11/2016 05:31

None. DS has one, he's 18.

Misselthwaite · 18/11/2016 07:33

We have 4 TVs 3 are Samsung which is great if someone loses a remote. 3 of them are smart TVs and of those 1 is 4k ultra HD and the picture is amazing and if you can afford one get one but only if you have access to 4k services like Netflix or Amazon.

We have network cables to all TVs so get things like iPlayer, Netflix, amazon prime also use it to listen to music using you tube and spotify. We get terrestrial TV accross the house from an aerial in the loft. We're big fans of TV in this house, the TV in the bedroom is 40 inches.

LilMissVixen · 18/11/2016 08:37

Can't help but feel if the OP had asked for advice on, say, which breed of dog to get she wouldn't be getting loads of responses saying "None. Why would you get a dog?"

I don't see what's wrong with an adult having a TV in any room of their own home. There's a very simple solution to the TV not being conducive to sleep - there is this new technology called an 'off switch' buy a TV with one of those.

I would defenitley recommend getting a smart TV (or equivalent). Nothing worse than snuggling up to watch something and finding there's nothing on!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 18/11/2016 08:45

So many unhelpful answers!

We have a 24" Sony Smart tv, sits on top of a DVD player on a chest of drawers, Freeview via aerial also Sky+ box. It's perfect. There are a lot of other options for content now though, our setup is about 4 years old.

Scribblegirl · 18/11/2016 08:52

We've got a 22 inch - one of those brands that you only see in Tesco. It's actually my mum's old kitchen TV which was handed down to us.

We don't have it on daily, but my absolute favourite start to a lazy weekend is to lie in, poke DP around 8.30, have a shag and turn on Saturday Kitchen. Enjoy the babble until we get hungry and then flip a coin to see who goes down to the shop for bagels and the papers.

We are talking about DC at the moment and I swear to god, late Saturday breakfasts in bed watching TV will be the thing I think I miss the most!

Monkeybunkey · 18/11/2016 09:17

42 inch Sony HD on a table opposite the bed. Not smart though, we've got an HD Freeview box connected to it via the aerial. Same in the spare room (when DP and I moved in together we ended up with far too many TVs so they all went in the bedrooms!).

Sparklingbrook · 18/11/2016 09:19

You start them young Scribble. DC1 would often watch Elmo's World in bed with me at the crack of dawn when he was a baby. Wink

Dahlietta · 18/11/2016 10:02

You need one of those that comes out of the foot of the bed when you press a button. That would be cool!
