Ok new to this so forgive me if on wrong board. My ds who is 4 brings home the nursery toy. The idea is for him to take said toy/puppet out with us until Monday, where I am to take pictures and write a lengthy diary entry of what ds and puppet have done. Problem is so far ds has shown no interest in even going near it/him and has categorically said it /he is not ds' friendConfused what on earth do I do now? Take pictures of said puppet ostracized to corner of sofa? Write that its had a fab time being carted around by me in a duffle bag all weekend and ds has ignored itBlush? Wwyd?

I found the bloody toy at the bottom of a bag after we had been away for the weekend. However, thanks to good old photoshop, teddy met Barack Obama, went to Niagara Falls and rode on the back of a polar bear!

As somebody else said just write it as what DS has done & stage a photo in case they read it out in class & he suddenly has a change of heart.

It has tickled me up though. My friend chose her DS's school with the treatment of a Reuben's Barn doll as the deciding factor. She went to visit one school where kids took it home on a weekend & it had a dedicated wall display of its antics & at the other pre-school it was upside down legs akimbo in the sink of a little tikes play kitchen, apparently that made her mind up Grin

Oh the sodding bear thing. I avoided it for as long as possible and then finally couldn't slope shoulders any more. The book was a couple of pages away from being full. It was all the most twee (tweeest?) nonsense you can imagine.

I started a new book, took the goddamned bear for the weekend, snapped away, stuck in the pictures, and wrote 'Billy Bear is a BAD BEAR and as such we cannot be expected to look after him again. Won't somebody please think of the children?'
Handed it back in.

Nothing AT ALL was said. Weeks later I surreptitiously checked the new book I'd bought and labelled up, and whilst there were screeds of further tweeness, our pages had been removed.
We never got asked again. Mission accomplished. 🏆 (I should add that DS was 2 at the time so was not scarred by this experience.)

Ha ha ahah ah ha ha! Grin

I will never forget the competitive shit in dds class bear book. Bear sips juice in the sunshine on the deck of the owners private boat type stuff.

Glittermakeseverythingbetter · 11/11/2016 10:24

We had the doll from brownies. Due to her filthy state she spent the entire week in a zip locked plastic bag Grin
I couldn't wash it because it literally would have fallen apart.

Twinkletowedelephant · 11/11/2016 10:28

We gave up with class bear.... We use to give him a wash...and I think we took him to wimpy once.... I do remember the class bear ds had... We had a very busy weekend and a party...we sent some photos in for 'teachers eyes only' that went down very well :)

witchkat72 · 11/11/2016 12:10

Agree with everyone who said trip round washing machine . My girls between them have had the school toy sent home 6 times over their years in Primary with a book to stick all photos in . When I looked through I could see said toy in bed with most of them getting dribbled on so the washer is its first adventure. I would take a couple of pictures of it in car or on sofa and you can make up that's it's watching something fun or going somewhere interesting in case there is a change of heart !

Ticketybootoo · 11/11/2016 14:33

BTW Ordinary girl - your response is the one I really wanted to give every time ! Glad there's someone else who thinks like me over this . My youngest has said she is getting another toy again in Year 4 - are there any teachers out there who can explain why there is a need ?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 11/11/2016 14:47

I had the luck of getting the class bear on the weekend that I'd promised to take the DC to the Lord Mayor's Parade. So I had to take the sodding thing with me and take the sort of photos that get you labelled as ONE OF THOSE PARENTS for eternity. Here is the Lord Mayor waving at Spotty etc. I'm amazed any of the subsequent parents were prepared to speak to me. Yes... I even took him to Wagamamas for lunch - Sorry guys.

Ticketybootoo - it is to promote home school links.

user1471516536 · 11/11/2016 18:28

I'm a teacher- the children like it, but generally it's just because leadership like doing twee crap. Im always agog at how people go all out for the bear book. I always thought it was to impress other parents- never thought that anyone assumed that I care what's in it!!! However, the kids do really really enjoy having the bear and showing everyone what it has done, plus even the reluctant writers put something in there, so overall I think it's a good thing.

BusterGonad · 11/11/2016 18:57

Wankers I've no idea how they can even make a puppet that looks like a peadophile. Grin

665TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 11/11/2016 19:14

This is a puppet? Oh dear ! How many entries in his diary involve spending time with people's hands shoved up his arse?

BertieBotts · 12/11/2016 10:50

The puppet looks suspiciously exactly like the puppet they used in a baby signing class I used to take DS to.

I wonder if one of the teachers had it left over when baby signing stopped being a craze and just decided to dump it back on the children.
