Ok new to this so forgive me if on wrong board. My ds who is 4 brings home the nursery toy. The idea is for him to take said toy/puppet out with us until Monday, where I am to take pictures and write a lengthy diary entry of what ds and puppet have done. Problem is so far ds has shown no interest in even going near it/him and has categorically said it /he is not ds' friendConfused what on earth do I do now? Take pictures of said puppet ostracized to corner of sofa? Write that its had a fab time being carted around by me in a duffle bag all weekend and ds has ignored itBlush? Wwyd?

Ah yes, we had Billy Bear in reception - a rather nice Build-a-Bear job. In fact, because I have twins we had to have the blasted thing twice! I made it up. Staged a couple of photos with the little blighter & wrote some guff in the book.

Some people went all out, my first experience of competitive parenting in their year group Shock

I think u should play them at their own game, and send another toy from home in, with its own diary when u take the bear back, and tell them u expect to have it back on Friday filled with writing about what it's been doing and photos etc. ;-D. See how they like it!

Whatever you do, don't lose it. Permanently. Sorry Mr Wonderful.

"Bertie had a great time being left in my bag because I forgot he was in there until Mummy found him late Sunday night! Mummy had a moan at me, then she put him back and I went to sleep."

Bertie probably did have a great time in the bag. He must have been knackered with all that ski-ing at Klosters, and popping over to Madrid by helicopter for the opening of an art exhibition etc.

He probably just necked a couple of paracetamol and sank into blissful oblivion for the weekend.

Watch that he doesn't try hiding out in your DC's bag again.

We've also got the class toy home for two nights ( typically it's the two where we do nothing). My DS is delighted . It has been to walk the dog and slid down the skate ramp. Tomorrow it's going to play with the other toys. That's the height of it!
In the 80s we had a class hamster . The weekend we had it our chimney went on fire and the poor thing almost died of smoke inhalation !

ThomasRichard · 09/11/2016 20:05

The class bear here always gets a 'spa day' in the washing machine/on the line.

Didactylos · 09/11/2016 20:09

I had this problem
the nursery bear came home with DS
and DS did not give a monkeys about it at all
I took the bear to the park with us, thinking one photo there would be our duty done and provide adequate bear related adventure
and someones Jack Russell decided it really liked the bear, took it out my hand and ran off with it to a corner of the park to express its sudden but sincere affection
the bear was rescued, washed, and we never spoke of its adventure

At DD's school the teacher reads out the toys diary entry. Think the kids enjoy listening to the adventures! We had a puppet one evening, it fell in DD's bath and spent the next day inside out on the radiator. Lied in the book about a trip the the park or something normal and sent back with a slightly soggy head!!

I'll bet that bear was shocked into silence for a very long time . . .

A7mint · 09/11/2016 21:09

YANBU Every parent hates copping for the class bear! They once gave it to my DC on a weekend when they knew we were moving house!

Love this! Grin

My heart always completely sinks when we get the class bear.

Does anyone know what the point is?

Is it some stealth way of finding out what your home life is like or something, so they can root out problem areas? Sounds very cynical I know, but I really, REALLY don't see the point otherwise.

Woolyheads · 09/11/2016 21:57

It is awful. While with us the Nursery Bear went swimming in a stagnant lake, got showered and hung out to dry. Pics looked like we'd spent the week deliberately torturing it. You can't do worse.

Shodan · 09/11/2016 22:03

We always got the sodding bear after half term.

Round here, many families go away that week, so the entries preceding ours were along the lines of 'Purple bear enjoying his first class seat' 'Purple bear loving jet skiing!' 'Purple bear taking in the view from the Empire State Building' etc.

When he was with us, Purple (yellow monkey/green something-or-other) Bear went to the bloody caff, into the 'swimming baths' and making friends with the cats ( being clawed by them)

Although, there was one year it snowed, and I bullied then-DH and ds2 down to the park and made them build a snowman in the shape of purple bear He spent the rest of that weekend tucked up in bed, as I recall...

catkind · 09/11/2016 23:55

I'm with the DS, that's a creepy toy.
Topically DD got hers today. I suspect her of canvassing the teacher, it's been having a break for a week or two, which everyone else seemed quite happy about. Sorry fellow parents.

AlchemySchmidtsSmile · 10/11/2016 00:10

I would suggest a photo of you nitcombing ScaryPuppetBoy. That might mean the damned thing gets shelved Wink

avamiah · 10/11/2016 00:14

My daughter is in year 2 primary and I'm thinking back to when she was at nursery and I don't remember her bringing home a toy.🤔.
Knowing my little one she probably said she didn't like the toy and had her own toys. Haha

avamiah · 10/11/2016 00:21

Further to my first post .
I do remember my daughter saying that one of her friends was looking after the little chicks in the Christmas holiday and asked why we couldn't look after the chicks.
I remember this because I told her we have 2 cats and they might not like the chicks visiting as they have only just gotten used to the goldfish living here. Haha

SundialShadow · 10/11/2016 02:50

These things are all for the class and the kids to look back fondly on. My big hard rugby playing son got his old class Teddy diary lately and was giggling like a toddler going through it.

We had Teddy....
Scrumping honey from the cupboard when everyone was in bed
Asleep next to son in bed
Sliding down the bannisters
Looking into a full bath contemplating a swim (he had one in the washing machine instead)
Knitting a new scarf for himself
Watching 'Home Alone' on the sofa with the kids
Swinging out of the chandelar
Swiging from a bottle of Famous Grouse

KoalaDownUnder · 10/11/2016 05:51

Someone in my nephew's class actually took the class bear to Thredbo for a skiiing weekend. Returned the book full of beautiful collages with ski lift passes, etc.

The parents who came after were Angry

Heathen4Hire · 10/11/2016 06:02

I remember this with my DC in reception. We don't do much, mostly watch the telly, and the diary that came with Teddy all had very competitive entries such as "Teddy learned some Mandarin" "Teddy can do long division" "Teddy went to Build a Bear to meet his cousins" "Teddy went to St Kitts", "Teddy raised £1000 for charity". Sod that!

We put, "Teddy likes watching Peppa Pig".

BravoPanda · 10/11/2016 07:02

Can't he just be in hibernation? What with the nice wintery weather we're having?
