Facebook: People saying "happy birthday" to other people's kids

Just a small rant.

I often see a parent post a photo (old or new) saying something like "happy birthday to our darling baby girl, can't believe you're 5 already" blah blah blah, vomit. What I then find even more odd and annoying is then 500 of their friends will start saying "happy birthday xxx".

What's the bloody point? The kid isn't on Facebook!!?

Or am I being mean??

I've never posted about my dc hospital visits as never have the time whilst I'm there but the thought has crossed my mind, in a reaching out way to get some support!

TheNaze73 · 08/11/2016 18:08

YANBU, complete waste of everyone's time. If they were a close friend or relative, you'd see them in person anyway

Deadsouls · 08/11/2016 18:11

But the people wishing happy birthday aren't doing it for the child, they're doing it for the parents and tthey validate them. Since I came off FB, sometimes it all seems a little weird.

ThePinkOcelot · 08/11/2016 18:23

It amazes me the absolute drivel people put on Facebook full stop. Personally, I think the world was a better place without it!

CozyAutumn · 08/11/2016 18:31

I did this just today actually. Grin That is, I posted a happy birthday wish on a friend's status about their child turning 10 today.

Can't Believe people get themselves all worked up about stuff like this, ha.

thebloodycat · 08/11/2016 19:22

Cozy I'm not "worked up" simply just don't get it!

One of the other things I find an annoyance (and it's not just on Facebook) is when people say or type "love you to the moon and back". What the hell does it even mean? I think it's one of those phrases people say and don't actually think about. There are much further places you can go to than the moon!!! Xx

thats a lovely saying from a famous book

TeacherBob · 08/11/2016 19:26

Guess how much I love you

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 08/11/2016 19:41

Yep, a book for small children. Don't you have to be over thirteen to have a FB account? I'm a cynical bugger and this stuff just makes me vom. Say it in person if you care so much.

TeacherBob · 08/11/2016 19:45

I am not saying I would use it, just saying it is an awesome book :p

Greengoddess12 · 08/11/2016 19:45

'Love you lots like jelly tots'

'Love you to the moon and back!

Both should be against the law.

TeacherBob · 08/11/2016 19:48

'sharing is caring' should be against the law, but thats off-topic lol

Somewhereundertheduvet · 08/11/2016 19:49

That's nothing.
It's the "Happy Birthdays/Happy Gotcha Days" to their dogs that get me.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 08/11/2016 19:52

teacher. So is Clockwork Orange but I can't see quotes from that one going down too well amongst the FB 'Huns' Grin. Might try it in a mo though....

thebloodycat · 08/11/2016 19:55

Anything with ".com" on the end too! Grrrr

OP posts:
TeacherBob · 08/11/2016 19:58

lol

seven201 · 08/11/2016 20:10

I don't mind people passing on the happy birthday message but I really don't like the way some people say 'happy 1st birthday to dc, love you so much' etc. They can't read and just say it to their face! It's like people who post soppy happy birthday to the most amazing husband ever messaged when you know they're probably sat next to each other on the sofa. Pass the sick bucket. If the parents says something along the lines of 'can't believe it's been a year since dc was dragged out of me with forceps' then fine. But... each to their own. It's not really a big issue!

thebloodycat · 08/11/2016 20:26

How about "to the rude person in Asda...." ermm they can't read it, they're not even your friend. hahaha
