To ask for a doll house for Christmas for myself

whatsthebigdeal · 07/11/2016 08:11

Ok so partner asks me what I want for Christmas
I have everything the only thing I want is a doll house, but the playmobil one
Looking online adult collectors of playmobil is a massive thing

I love reminiscing over childhood things, I know it's a bit silly but I would love to collect all the people and bits
I haven't asked yet, is it too silly to ask for?
I already collect cuddly toys and used to collect Lego sets as an adult, is this any different?
Probably going to get flamed for being a weirdo but hey ho
(And I've got no kids I can buy it for)

Is it just me or does this look a little rude at first glance?

This Twitter parody account is an absolute hoot if you're a Sylvanian Families fan

Ps I bought myself 2 Ever After High dolls Grin

I love Lauren Child's dolls' house. There's a little video at the end as well

No more weird than adults buying colouring books which seems to be a thing now. I love playmobil and have a vast collection from my childhood as I grew up in Germany. Last Summer I set up the castle in DS's bedroom. Lots of fun.

Ohyesiam · 07/11/2016 23:27

Do yourself a massive favour, and ask for it.

Ohyesiam · 07/11/2016 23:29

Ooh, missed update. Good for you.

tangerineclouds · 08/11/2016 08:11

Honestly, why? To play with?

Footle · 08/11/2016 08:21

OP, I'm glad you're not living with someone who makes you feel bad or self conscious about doing something harmless that you find fun and satisfying.

whatsthebigdeal · 08/11/2016 08:53

Tangerineclouds, not to play with as such, to collect and set up
He has ordered it now, I'm looking forward to building it and setting it up :)

I did see the extensions and lights sets, maybe for my birthday!

Go for it OP, my daughter loves playmobil and I managed to find the house I had as a child for her on eBay. Many happy memories

Musicinthe00ssucks · 08/11/2016 09:06

YANBU OP. I love playing with my DDs toys and I love going to toy shops. My favourites are Sylvanian Families. Luckily DDs love them too so we can play together.

I once told DH that I would love a room with display cases for Sylvanians and he said "what like Michael Jackson's Neverland" Hmm

I have bought DD2 a wooden dolls house for her birthday next week and I can't wait to spend Sunday evening putting it together.

Have fun with, what I think, it a really lovely hobby.

I'm overwhelmed by the support on here! Thanks everyone
There's something therapeutic about toys and collecting, a temporary escape from the real world

I hope you enjoy your Playmo experience, whats!

Norman the Foreman (Prime Minister of Playmoland) sends his best wishes. Smile

slinkysaluki · 09/11/2016 00:51

I always wanted a Cabbage Patch kid and never got one, I'd love a dolls house to decorate....

ArriettyMatilda · 09/11/2016 04:40

Yanbu, glad he's said yes! I had a similar question about lego last year, everyone said go for it Grin To be honest my dd has a train set, a load of Duplo and will be getting a dolls house purely because I was desperate for those toys as a child and I never got them. There's something therapeutic and nostalgic about setting up/playing with toys.

steff13 · 09/11/2016 04:45

There's an attraction near me that is all model trains. Instead of a regular gift shop, they have a collector's shop. It's huge, filled with model trains, dollhouse furnishing, all sorts of things like that. Children are not in there spending a zillion dollars on that stuff. I say if you want it, get it.

SoMuchToBits · 09/11/2016 09:22

Yes, there are lots of people who collect and set up train sets model railways. I don't see why having a dolls' house/Playmobil should be any different.

winterisnigh · 09/11/2016 10:36

If your a weirdo, your in good company Smile I saw wonderful documentary on Lauren Childs a while ago, she is the author of charlie and lola and more. Her hobby is making DH, she goes to a special place and puts leccy in and everything.
