To ask for a doll house for Christmas for myself

whatsthebigdeal · 07/11/2016 08:11

Ok so partner asks me what I want for Christmas
I have everything the only thing I want is a doll house, but the playmobil one
Looking online adult collectors of playmobil is a massive thing

I love reminiscing over childhood things, I know it's a bit silly but I would love to collect all the people and bits
I haven't asked yet, is it too silly to ask for?
I already collect cuddly toys and used to collect Lego sets as an adult, is this any different?
Probably going to get flamed for being a weirdo but hey ho
(And I've got no kids I can buy it for)

Oh OP, you will love it. I have a sylvanian house and a lego 3-in-1 house, and find building/decorating/rearranging them relaxing and therapeutic if I'm in a funk. A couple of years ago I bought myself the playmobil nativity set and a few other Christmassy sets to go with it. I absolutely love setting it up differently each day in November December. Makes me smile Smile

RhiWrites · 07/11/2016 13:29

Definitely do it OP. It looks great.

I really like this Melissa and Doug one myself. A steal at under £100 amzn.to/2fgJvfH

Not too silly at all. If it'll make you happy, go for it. Playmobil isn't my thing but I 'collect' (ie complusively read) pre-1970s girls' school stories. I used to feel a bit Blush about that, then realised that life's too short, and each to their own.

whatsthebigdeal · 07/11/2016 15:31

I'm going to get it, cant wait til christmas!
I really don't care what other people think, thanks everyone x

Have fun with it 👍

OhSoggyBiscuit · 07/11/2016 17:22

I recently gleefully found my big tub of lego from when I was a child, I kind of want one of the sets as I never had one growing up.

Life's too short to be a serious grown up.

For years I wanted a wooden dolls house. The type you decorate yourself and fit working lights. I swore if I came into some money I'd buy it. Unfortunately by the time I came into some money I needed a bigger/better car. So I've still not had my dolls house. Sad

Blackbird82 · 07/11/2016 17:40

I'd love to get all of my retro toys back - He-man & She Ra, Thundercats, Sindy House etc and play with them all.....I'm 34!

So no, I don't think YABU!

FayKnights · 07/11/2016 17:41

I've just preordered the Lego Yellow Submarine (with all 4 BeatlesGrin). If you want a dolls house, then go right ahead!

MariposaUno · 07/11/2016 17:44

I LOVE doll's houses.. and have got a lovely one and done all the electrics myself, even Christmas tree lights, and a chiming Grandfather clock. You can get some amazing furniture online too... always a source for Christmas and birthday presents. I simply looked up online how to do the electrics..used to get so absorbed I nearly missed the school run.
I have got a dark side, so my doll's house has got a child in a coffin in the front room, with a parent bending over it and the dad hanging dead in his study (my daughter aged 13 did that, so must be in the genes or the environment), with a priest coming up the stairs.. also have fantastic attic, with a ghost...
We have had parties where I've found the whole senario changed... like someone put the maid in a clinch with the priest...fantastic, we are always changing the 'story' .
Do it, you'll never regret it, but it is an expensive hobby to have if you want to indulge it all at once but It has taken me 7 years.
Now I want to find a stone mason who could build me a 'cathedral 'or abbey
and I want to do all the church lighting and music (Faure or Mozart Requiem perhaps) with a coffin and procession. Oh Joy!

A few years ago I got the Playmobile Victorian house for £20 at a car boot it was for my niece but I had a lot of fun setting it all up go for it OP! If I ever win the lottery I want to have a room with all the 80s early 90s toys I used to have plus get some Triang dolls houses as I would love to have the time and money to collect all the furniture for them

SootSprite · 07/11/2016 18:31

Dear OP,

My Daddy buys me Lego or Sylvanian families stuff every Christmas and Birthday. I love it.

If it will make you happy, and it's what you want then why not. I have always wanted an old fashioned dolls house myself.

Foxtato · 07/11/2016 20:24

Sure, get it if it will make you happy Smile. Think It's quite sweet.

Foxtato · 07/11/2016 20:26

Missed the update! I'm glad

Laska5772 · 07/11/2016 20:30

Get one! I want a skateboard (and i'm nearly 59) Grin

MrEBear · 07/11/2016 20:40

Totally unreasonable to want Play Mobil - its for kids.

Lego now that would be a different story. Grin
Have you still got your Lego collection, why not add to it?

teenmumandsowhat · 07/11/2016 20:59

I still collect sylvanian families! Luckily now I have the excuse I'm "buying it for when my dc are old enough"
But the one thing I shall be treating myself to this Christmas is a "designafriend doll" (uk version of American girl doll) I always wanted one when they first came out, but my parents never brought me one.
This year they have got my dd one, so I shall be buying myself one too.

SoMuchToBits · 07/11/2016 22:24

Norman the Foreman says - Playmobil all the way!

To ask for a doll house for Christmas for myself
WatchingFromTheWings · 07/11/2016 22:26
